Any Speedy ideas ?
Discussion
Can anyone help me with a little conundrum?
My Mileometer has stopped working. No miles are being recorded.
The speedo works perfectly - and against a sat nav is quite accurate.
I think the speedo works electrically from a sensor near the gearbox.
Is the mileometer cable driven ?
What route does it take ?
How do I check it/Investigate ?
Thanks in advance.

No, its all done by the wizardry and magic of elecotrisitity.A possible alternative to the inaptly named Speedy Cables could be Speedograph.
I believe having the mechanical mileometer display replaced by a digital display is an option?

....... but there was an alternative repairer mentioned in a post a few months ago. And they were speedy!
It was JDO Instruments in Keighley. This was the original post...https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
5th post down.
If its anything like mine and its stuck on "9" - try driving over the stippled white line at speed and give the edge of the dial a decent whack (without enough to bust the glass). It worked on my S 2 and V8. That was the advice I got at the time, as quite a number of people have experienced this issue. Just be careful not to bust the glass on the dial!!!
It's not impossible but it isn't easy.
There are at least two* large Phillips head screws holding the dash moulding to the lower part of the windscreen frame which need to be undone. Feel along the front edge of the dash moulding to work out where the threaded inserts* are (probably just nuts) and then get in the foot-wells and try to see the screw heads. Undo the screws. Unbolt the brackets either side of the outer lower edge of the dash. Remove the steering column shrouds. Taking the steering wheel off is a good idea as well. Pull the whole dash forward as far as you can. This should give you enough room to get your hand in behind the dash to undo the nuts which hold the plate which holds the speedo and tacho to the main veneered dash panel. Once you've got this mounting plate far enough away from the back of the decorative plate you can undo the clamp on the back of the speedo and remove it from the mounting plate. You'll have to disconnect the wires obviously.
Easy peesy Have fun
(*) You might find there are four threaded inserts/nuts but how many screws TVR fitted depended on (i) what day of the week it was, (ii) how long it was to lunch/knocking off time, (iii) how many screws they had handy. Or any combination of these factors. Hopefully you'll just have two and that's enough.

If you obtain a spare speedo then that could be installed whilst yours is repaired .
Or fitted for good and bin faulty one !Two problems as I see it....
1. they're not too easy to find.
2. when you do I suspect it won't be cheap
Oh, and 3. some are 4 pulse and others 8, get wrong one and speedo will be way out (ask me how I know)
So far I’ve completely failed to get any car time at all in the last few weeks.
I did mange an in depth consultation with Tony over a cheeky breakfast.
It stopped working during heavy rain. And my car, it will surprise you to know, leaks.
So I’m going to wait until it’s dry and warm. Attack the dash vigorously with a hair dryer. And then drive over cats eyes and rumble strips and undertaken some precision tapping.
If that fails, I’ll be trying to persuade someone with experience to help me take the dashboard out.
