Try to find one with a decent chassis unless you're willing to do some work yourself. Pay particular attention to the condition of the outriggers. Running gear is from various Ford models so relatively easy to come by.
See if the doors have dropped. The fix may be as simple as replacing the bushes, but the hinge bolts can be a pain to remove and could lead to a major headache.

The later models have longer doors making it easier to get in and out, better mirrors and the later 2.9 engine (or V8 if you're lucky). All depends what you want as the driver.
If it's going to be used regularly ask if the roof leaks, see if the windows work etc. Normal car stuff.

I'm sure someone will come along shortly with a load more information.

I'm longing for a tvr again this time with a smaller budget . There's a couple for sale at around £6000 is there a chance these would be sorted?

If you let us know the cars you see, someone on here might well have history on it or be able to provide other knowledge. I know a few of us have also looked at cars in our area to give others a bit of extra information. We also have experience of a couple of venders, good and bad, and know where caution might be advised!

I think it's that shiny metal thing where the gear lever normally lives..

That shiny thing is long gone, it's got it's little stick back with a bit of nice leather around it to keep it warm and covering a new original rubber gaiter.

yikes I hope you're not leaving the fold, ourTel? Was it something I said or something I did?
It certainly can't be the prospect of the GTS Initiation Ceremony, you're much too young and far too quick to qualify for membership.... as yet!

But that S3c of yours is certainly an outstandingly fine meticulously restored example. Anybody that gets their hands on that will be a very lucky person indeed. cool
