Hi

I noticed this the other day. No idea how that happened but can anyone recommend either the best way of repairing it (maybe it's just glue down for now) or where I can source a replacement?

Short term you could simply glue the veneer back in place and maybe invest in a vacuum bag. The sort of thing sold for compressing duvets would probably do. You can fill the crack with coloured filler and reseal with clear lacquer from a rattle can. Longer term you could get a piece of real veneer, looks like European walnut to me. Gluing the existing piece back down will be good practice for when you want to have a go at replacing the whole strip with new.

Hi thanks for replying. I'll have a go and gluing it down then. sorry for being thick but what did you mean by the vacuum bag method?

Something like THIS. Put the piece of glued up trim inside the bag and suck all the air out using a hoover. Atmospheric pressure compresses everything together so you get a nice firm bond, ideally without any little air bubbles.

You'll need to work out a way of stopping any extruded glue sticking the trim to the inside of the bag. Try clingfilm.

HAHA that may also work.

If I end up wanted to replace it, can this be bought anymore or is it a case of just buying and cutting some matching veneer to suit?

Doubt it.

More likely.
