I agree with Barry.

Vendor says:
"The chassis has some rust appearing which mostly looks to be surface however their are small parts of decay next to the jacking points"

Presumably by "jacking points" they mean the outriggers' triangular gussets?

The outriggers, plus rear trailing arms tubes and chassis brackets would need close inspection before thinking about bidding.

The car was listed on Ebay some time ago. The non-matching seats (why ?) are the giveaway. Sad to see "PLEASE NO MORE TIME WASTERS AND SILLY OFFERS", so somebody has evidently messed the seller about. Can anyone who is more technically-savvy than me please have a look at the Ebay pics and determine if it a genuine S4C before I go to view the car ? I've tried cropping/enlarging the pic of the chassis plate but the resolution is too low to get the details.

Did you notice how appropriate the Nissan front indicators look on this car!!
Quite a few have non standard seats these days, been quite a lot of options explored on PH

The indicators look good. Re the seats, I've read about substituting Chim / MX5 and others, wondered what these somewhat mangled ones (also on Ebay) might scrub up like -- and whether my skills in the metal-bashing and upholstery departments would be sufficient....

I wouldn't spend money on those ex Chim seats that are fire damaged so will need a lot more than just a scrub, and at £480 before you restore, the asking price is ridiculous!

I don't think the current seats in that S4 do the car any favours but would look a lot better if re-coloured to either match the light interior or the green dash top, IMO.

However, the cost of replacing the seats will be insignificant if the chassis needs work so that would be where I would check carefully.

....must be a different seller, the one I had in mind is Ebay listing 401559561781. Either way, I take the point about the amount of work involved. Just thought that for under £100 maybe the covers could be salvaged and either used as a pattern or re-Conollised (is that still a current expression ?) or generally restored including straightening the seat frames. I believe they were extracted from the V8S that was a recant casualty following a major event.

Ah, apologies I misinterpreted your earlier post and searched for a pair of Chim seats!! rolleyes

Those V8S seats would be better but how much will it take to straighten/repair and they will also need to be recoloured to match the S4 interior. If the current mx5? seats are in good order they could be colour changed even from black to light tan (or whatever the interior colour is) and would make the car look much better.

I wouldn't let the seats be a game changer if I was serious about that S4 though!

The bonnet could have been changed but it's a very late one, 1993, it has disc brakes on the rear and battery in the boot..... seems "kosher" to me wink

The vendor states in the Ebay listing that the bonnet has been resprayed at some time, hard to tell from the pics but may not be a good colour match. "Only" stone chips, or possible front end damage ? Checking the MoT history on Cazana it has done just 5K miles in the past 12 years.

It also has the wider track of an S4 unless it is running spacers. The roof struts are alloy rather than steel ( but some S4s have black anodised) but could have been changed. The balance of probability is that it is an early S4. A viewing would confirm.

Red 88 S1 Herne Bay. Might be a realistic start price? Looks superficially honest enough but no chassis pics or details!!

It's a good sound example.

If anyone would like any further info and an unbiased appraisal, send me a PM.

Not sure Glen, owned by Stewart Macrae, ex RAF?
