Got a photo, didn't think there was an earth terminal?
You'll find replacement solenoids on Ebay, just the little matter of getting the correct one! Is it a Bosch unit, should be a part number on it? Here's an old PH post.
Whatever is broken your best bet may be to see if you can find an "old school" starter/alternator repair shop somewhere local, the sort of place that actually fix things and don't just sell replacements

Yes, there's mention of changing just the end in that old post I linked to but the crimping could be an issue?From the Bosch part number I quoted five years ago this could possibly be the correct solenoid?
At that sort of money is it worth a bit more and get the complete thing...... forgetting there for a minute, you are Scottish

Looking at the rest of the starter a complete replacement is a good call.Steve
