I put this on my s3c and on the "quick shifter" when working on it before the Monaco trip, really nice quality on the rubber ( Wonder how long it will take before Glenn comment on rubber :P )

I used those generic ones on my Chimaera. Had to cut the first lip off each one but they're a good fit. At under £6 they may only last a year but at that price I don't mind.

Get a second pair to go over the steering column UJs, while you're at it. These last a lot longer when you protect them from heat and dust.

Car Builder Solutions do a couple which should enable you to get one to the size you need, some of the generic ones are not small enough diameter at the track rod end (Modern cars tend to have larger diameter track rods I think). www.carbuildersolutions.com . If you contact them, order a catalogue, it is now over 400 pages long and crammed with useful stuff.

It is indeed a very good idea to put a gaiter over the steering column bearings. The steering rack gaiters are rather big for that. I have a much smaller diameter one on the lower column joint but I don't know where it came from, possibly not even automotive. Anyone seen anything like that?

I don't think the op is struggling to find some gaiters but is struggling to find some that don't perish and split in no time, have you tried these Richard? If so how old are they now and how are they looking?

Not convinced about gaiters on the column uj's myself, unless you get a good fit/seal at both ends there is the possibility water will get in and do more harm than good ?

But if you must this looks a possible ?

I've never had any problem with that. The top one gets cooked and I can't imagine any water you managed to get in it would stay liquid for long. The bottom one has the better seal on the upper end. Just like TVR roofs, as long as the bottom leaks more than the top you'll be fine. I replaced the upper UJ several times before I added the gater but haven't needed to replace it in the 100 k ish miles since then.

I haven't used them Mike but so far CBS stuff has never disappointed and I would presume they would not be the dusty old stock we sometimes find from local parts dealers!

I agree re gaiters in general, bad fitting or cracked ones suddenly move from protecting to holding the wet muck in. However I did 'engineer' my lower column gaiter so it does seal properly (cant photo it at the moment) and I checked in February and it was like new inside. The gaiter I used was like a mini steering rack one not like the one on ebay. Wish I could remember where I got it! As I get older I will need to note everything down....now where did I put that pad?

The top one may get dried on the V8 but on the S1 they get more wet muck!

These looked to be arms off Glen's gimp suit. I bet he looks like Robbie the Robot in it.
