The water pump failed last week and removing it left me with two snapped bolts stuck in the front of the engine and a couple more with rounded heads or bent shafts. I checked the Bolt List Wiki but they’re not listed there. Does anyone know the correct size and material ?

Thanks

they are M6, 8.8 tensile strength, BZP ..... unless you want to replace with stainless?

Happened to me a few years ago. Had to weld nuts to the broken studs. Then came straight out. Used M6 Stainless Allen headed bolts as a replacement.

Thanks all. I'll be of the the local fastener supplier tomorrow.

The snapped bolts came out with a mixture of Plus Gas soaking, a few taps with hammer to induce compliance and a good set of Mole grips. They would only move a quarter of a turn at at a time before getting tight again so there was a lot of toing and froing until they stopped being over tight. Then I knocked a 5mm socket onto them and managed to finish them off with a ratchet.

Just a thought; is it worth adding them to the Bolts Wiki?
