Oversized 5ltr pistons?
Discussion
So after 6 years of dealing with the repercussions of the WORST engine builder on the planet it turns out they used the wrong pistons!
Since this has cleaned me out, we are now doing things properly from scratch so it's perfect..... to sell. We have two options and since the cylinders need doing as well we have two options.
So basically I need 8 5ltr or oversized.
Long shot but does anyone have any they have not used for a project?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers fellas, think it was a spur of the moment post after one of "those" weeks.
But go on I'll list some them...
Valves not seated or lapped.
Bent push rods.
Wrong small pistons.
Old head gaskets re used.
Head dropped and badly scored.
Lose bolt in timing gear launched oil pump and grenaded engine.
Block not top hatted as claimed.....
If I wrote it all it would go on forever, lol
Thanks anyway.

Judging by the fact the engine had bent pushrods I guess they fitted standard Land Rover pistons without the cut-outs and then ran the engine up with insufficient valve to piston clearance!.
Probably this, but wouldn't surprise me if the cam timing was out too on what was obviously a hash build.I'm following this post with great interest. I had my griff 500 engine rebuilt recently and the builder decided the original pistons and little ends were within specification, however after a few miles of driving it was clear the engine had a rattle on the overrun and also when driving at light throttle below 2K rpm. I sent a video to JE and he was of the opinion that it is almost certainly the little ends! It sounds like the 500 engine is particularly susceptible to this.
This tells me the engine builder was wrong and pistons and little ends should of been replaced. Perhaps he didn't do this because the pitons are a bit special?
I'd really appreciate suggestions for a fix without another rebuild!!
Perhaps its possible to get new little ends fitted or even get new pistons and little ends and fit my old rings?

Sorry to hear you are having grief with your Griff.
Still remember meeting you at Cadwell Park back in the 19th Century.
I knew Ian was old but not that old. Still remember meeting you at Cadwell Park back in the 19th Century.

You were brave enough to passenger in my car for a few laps.
I think it was the year my wife came along and passengered for four sessions too.
She seemed very keen to let someone else occupy the suicide seat for a session, and later confirmed that she had been wearing the wrong colour trousers that day.
Hi Ian .. who has said the wrong pistons were fitted and what did they say was actually wrong with them ? The engine has been to bits a couple of times, why weren't the wrong pistons picked up on a previous strip down?
A precise breakdown / timeline of events would help, but if someone is claiming now after all this time that the wrong pistons are fitted I'd want to make sure they're not trying to cover their backs over a previous mistake that they can neatly brush under the carpet by getting you to buy new oversize pistons ...

What a shower of st outfit completely unacceptable hope you get this sorted , just for another posters info the RV8 dont really have small ends as such the bearings for the small end is the gudgeon/wrist pin running in the piston body itself bit st to be honest especially from a performance POV But go on I'll list some them...
