help again please.sometimes the engine (2.9) looses power when acelerating at about 3000rpm then bursts back.have replaced the throttle pot,dist cap,rotor arm,plugs,leads,and coil. has anybody any ideas????

Are you sure the pot is ok, that’s exactly what mine was doing when the pot failed.

I've had several throttle pots go on my 'S'. One lasted 3 days !! So don't rule it out. I currently have a throttle pot on mine which is the part supplied for the Cerberra S6 engine. Works perfectly and is the longest lasting by far !! Additionally it is less than 1/2 the price of the Ford part.

If you drive gently can you get it past 3000Rpm? As the problem sounds like fuel starvation, check fuel pressure, fit a new fuel filter and presuming that your 2.9 still has the Bosch mechanical injection (K-jetronic) then check the metering head supply pintle for smooth operation and the injectors for blockage (spray into a container, all should be the same)

nope 2.9 has electonic not mechanical fuel injection and is not fuel related.

Rev the engine from under the bonnet and see if the breather hose from the plenum to the rocker cover collapses - it routes around the distributor and can get kinked. Mine collapsed a while ago and I got similar problems to you but not fixed to a particular rpm. It's just an oil pipe from ford and only costs about 3 or 4 quid to replace if that's the problem.

found the problem to be dodgey wireing in the "tps" plug, one pin was not makeing and brakeing contact with the plug so i squeezed the contacts together and all is fine now.
