To save bootspace you can use the footwells to store stuff next to your legs each side. |There is a long thin channel which is wide enough and long enough to take the jack and brace without geeting in the way.
This channel is set lower than the floor so it cant slide in the way. I use one for the jack and the other for a tool roll plus spares keeping the boott empty apart from the roof that is.

Not quite sure what you mean Bill. I don't recall a lower set channel

I have found on my S1(2.8) that by taking advice from local parts shop and changing the spark plugs from Champion RN7YC to NGKBPR6E the performance has sharpened up no end. The engine is more responsive if somewhat restless and does not tickover smoothly but is a lot more lively.
To confirm I tried with the Champions in again and it became very dull in comparison.
The box states that they are 'grooved'for better performance and it works.

Tips and Hints for Christmas Travel.

To save bootspace leave stuff at home.

To improve fuel consumption try to avoid carrying anything heavy. A useful weight saving can be gained by getting you and your passenger to avoid underwear. With outer clothing on top no-one but you need know.

On the floor to the right of you leg on the drivers side there is a step of 1'' and then it goes down again so the floor is 3" wider than you think. This is where you casn keep stuff as it is behind this lip.
You probably dont realise its there as you foot pushes against the lip and it feels like the side of the interior when it isnt.

This channel is only relevent to the S1 and S2 as the later cars (with the non curvy dash) have a GRP wall containing an air vent, this actually makes life a lot more difficult!

That is the false sill that runs from the front wheel arch to the back. If anything moves back under the door section it will be almost impossible to retrieve. Also, I'm not sure I would want anything loose near my feet while I'm driving.
