Yup, I've got the plastic heron and it just ignores it.

The rat's a good idea though Lee, can you train it to bite herons first

Problems with Herons being that they are protected I think like cormorants, and to kill 'em means you are in trouble. But, as with the cormorant population that was eating its way through the carp lakes staock where I used to fish, we found a 2:2 rifle the best method. After hours of course !!!

Johno you seem to kill quite a few things, I'm getting worried about you!!!! .I had never seen a Heron in the flesh until a few months ago, I was walking my dog Bodie (see the car connection?)over the fields behind me (my house backs onto fields and the canal is about 2 meters from my garden gate so I am used to the odd duck and swan fight!) and what I could only describe as a small Concorde took off over my head!, I thought I was a gonner , must of spooked the thing whilst looking for it's dinner, dog looked at it and wandered off to chase pheasants

herons,

alike to poaching pheasants, get a fine metal mesh and form it into a cone. put a fish for bait in the pointy end of the cone. When the heron sticks is head in to get it he cant pull it back out cos his feathers jam against the mesh.
Well it works with pheasants so why not a heron
