Should the switches for then fan, instrument illumination, heated rear window and foglight in the small instrument panel in the centre console be backlit? The ones on my S3 aren't but the leccy window switches just below them are. Also - should there be any backlight on the heater/demist controls? Should really take the panel off() and have a look but I'm not feeling that brave just yet.

If your switches are the same as my S4, they probably are illuminated, but very very dim.

The switch symbols are illuminated by fibre optic cable/light guides which connect back to a single bulb in a casing which is buried in the 'rats nest' of wire underneath the switch console. Itis possible that the bulb has gone, but more likely you haven't noticed that the symbols are actually lit. Unless you have a real desire to get in amongst the wiring I wouldn't bother doing anything about it, as its a pig of a job to get everything back so that it all works!

Hope this helps

Cheers

Just done all my lights.
The switches do work if you change the bulb in the fibre-optic unit, its a bit of a pig to do, but then what job isn't on a tiv?
I uprated all my bulbs to 5amp as opposed to the normal 3amp, you dont need to change any fuses as the amps are only going up by 2, a minimal ammount.
Has made a real differance, and i can see the switches now.
Good luck.

oops - sorry - I was too lazy to go out to the garage and check the dashboard to see what switches were there and couldnt remember what one of them did so just typed whatever accessory came into my head - one too many methinks.

I think you mean 3 Watts up to 5 Watts 'cos a 5 amp draw would mean a 60W bulb - a bit bright for dash lighting
