Infinity 6x9s in the back, nothing in the front as yet. Sounds superb.

By the way, you have to cut larger holes, they don't just slot in.

What size speakers does your car have already? It maybe easier to replace them with the same size, I have 6.5” infinities in the rear and 5.25” alpines in the front doors, the best bet is to go to Halfords where they have them all on display, listen to them and see which ones you prefer, then I’d shop around for the best price.

No idea on the size required I'm afraid as I just cut the holes out and threw away the original speakers. The reason I fitted the 6x9s is that I already had them from another car and they had only 6 months of use and cost me 85 quid. Cutting the holes wasn't too difficult with a jigsaw. The other advantage is that the 6x9s are 3 way speakers whereas the smaller 6.5s are only 2 way.

We went to halfords yesterday to listen to some speakers and the smaller round infinities they had seemed to be significantly better than the alternatives. My mate is going to get some from some net based supplier now he has listened to them.

When you put new speakers in the back, lift off the center console and run new speaker cable from the head unit through to the boot following the existing cable runs as the old cable is just old bell wire and your new speakers will sound much better with proper cable.

I haven't put anything in the doors as the electric window motor rack thing pokes into the back of the existing speakers which is presumably why they sound so bad (coupled with age). I was going to get something to protect the back of the speakers but didn't get around to it.

Easy on an s3... there are 2 screws at the back, one on each side (probably under little plastic covers). Undo those, unscrew the gear stick knob and lift from the back. You probably don't want to take the whole thing off as you'll disconnect the heater hoses which you'll then have to relocate but you'll have plenty of room to route new cables. Then the cable follows the original under the edge of the carpet/mat and through a hole into the boot.
