I would have though stainless steel brake cable from a bike would suffice.

The difficulty is forming a small enough loop and clamping it in a 'chocolate block'. Bike cable is very springy, try bending it into a tight loop! Again B&Q do some cheap cable by the length that can be bent easily if you prefer to a rigid cable.

I meant in lieu of a straight piece of wire - still retaining the R clip. That said does it need to be that small a hoop?

Is this a case of finding a solution to a problem that doesn't exist?


Just bend up a new piece of piano wire, last one presumably lasted 25 or so years?

Richard, many thanks for this great idea.

First trip out in the S and Novelette was stuck in the car with a none working door release! Too much fiddling in doors trying to get leccy mirrors to work frown
