lo all, I have an S3c that had a problem with the accelerator sticking open. It first happened on a roundabout as I accelerated off it it appeared to stick for less than a second, but it was quite noticeable. It then happened everyonce in a while and I asked my local garage to take a look. They couldn't find anything wrong with it. It carried on happening for longer periods of time and I started to dread driving it in case it happened in traffic, on a sharp bend etc. Naturally I carried on driving it, then on the M5 near Bristol it stuck open and just wouldn't come back. "Fcuk" I thought, it wasn't fully open thank goodness, but as I floored it to over take a car that had finally pulled over from the outside lane it just carried on accelerating and it was now at 4,000rpm without me touching the pedal. I slowed it through the gears and quick presses on the brake. Mr AA man came out - nothing wrong with it. Arse! Took it back to the garage and told them to fix it before giving back to me, this time it happened to their mechanic whilst he was test driving it, so finally they believed me. About a week later they found the problem. The bonnet lining was hanging down a bit and was catching on the acelerator linkage, but, obviously, with the bonnet up this was not happening. Basically - if this happens to any of you please note that the problem could be as simple as that, and you won't have to spend loads getting someone to find the problem. ttfn. Ouch, 'kin hell, could have been nasty. Glad you got away with it. This has happened to me too (just the once, wouldn't drive it again until I knew for sure what the problem was) and the same story comes up from time to time. The more common cause seems to be the throttle pedal catching on the end of the carpet. This is particularly likely if you've hung the carpets up to dry as this tends to curl the edges up. Yeah I had that happen on my way home from picking the car up when I bought it. What a great start ah? On mine the carpet locating lug on one side was missing and the one on other side came out so the carpet got pushed down as I got in the car. I now check this before I drive. Add that to the list of things to buy. Edited by Paul V on Wednesday 14th March 14:59
