Whats the score with the ALD registrations on the G plates?

I have one and have noticed quite a few others. Mine is 45, there is a 44 for sale on ebay Gerald-TVR has 39, was it a job lot of pre registered during the early 90's recession?

Would be interested to know how many are out there.scratchchin

Isn't it a David Gerrald thing. dealers tend to buy job lots and also look through up coming numbers and preorder. Or we did when I was on work exp.

Nope G39 ALD was sold by TVR Centre Arkley, Herts, so nothing to do with David Gerald

Under the old area code system, LD was one of the codes for North-West London: "LD - London North West (Greater London to 1974)".

Although Arkley (Barnet) is in Herts, the local DVLA office is Stanmore (Middlesex / NW London).

Weren't numbers issues in groups - so say 10 numbers would go to the same dealer. I am J902NLC and I've seen another car close to this I can't remember now what the number was.
Personal plates spoil all the spotting fun though!

interesting stuff, so my old S2, G42 ALD has been exported?

I owned this car from 2003 to 2005 if memory serves me right, I sold it after spending a lot of time and money on it, as you do, to a chap in Romsey, and soon afterwards found it advertised on Coys auction site, went for £4800 I believe.

time to reminise with a couple of picshehe

I think your source is pretty unrialable, most of those cars on your list are 2.9lt, and shows them as 2.8lt.

No, it is correct. TVR Engineering didn't alter the registered name of the cars from "280S" to "290S" until later in production, so many S2's have the earlier designation on the V5.

If any of you have an iPhone download the mycarcheck app. It's pretty good fun and you can search for your perfect plate to see if it's assigned to a vehicle. I have 2 plates I would love to own, one is on a Bentley Continental the other on a citroen Berlingo!!! It also gives you basic info on a vehicle, good fun if any of your friends have a debadged car and claim it has a juicier enginelaugh

Bit late in the day, but as the original owner, I can confirm that the S2 was bought and registered from the TVR Centre in Barnet. The S3 came out not long after. 'G39 ALD' was the plate given to the car and is no way meant to represent 'GERALD'. The original colour was described as magenta. The dash I opted for - which you tend not to see in the photos - was in walnut, which was unusual at the time. I also went for the S1 OZ wheels as I preferred these to the spoked ones that were offered with the S2.
