Overheating---Help

I've been running my SE for months now with no trouble but recently my water temp gauge has been going high into the red and the dash showing a high-temp warning light.Pulled the car over no leaks,fans working,coolant at its normal level.Once I drive a further mile or so gauge goes back to normal,this has happended a few times. Suggestion was that I might have an air lock but coolant system has not been touched for months.Could it be a faulty themostat or temp sender unit.Anyone out there had a similar problem or could point me in the right direction

Could be a sticky thermostat but I would probably suspect a buildup of debris in the radiator duct area. Being so low to the ground, it tends to collect a ton of stuff which gradually decreases airflow.
