I do wonder why anyone would want to live in the sthole that is London. High wages I guess.
Surely it all levels out though with high living costs?

I was in London last week and found it a complete nightmare to navigate, jumping on and off trains, high cost of everything, rude people and too many restricted driving zones.

I couldnt wait to leave and wouldnt be upset if I never had to go there again.
To be honest comments like calling a place a sthole and questioning people for something like living there are just moronic comments. People visit London and go see all the sights then come away saying they couldn't live there, that's just daft. Thats like a Londoner going to watch Liverpool at Anfield get a train there and back and then come to the insightful conclusion there is nothing much there the people are rude and couldnt live there. Living and visiting are very different experiences for a start, also the majority of Londoners in London during the day in the week do not actually live in London, they commute in from places like Herts/Hampshire/Surrey/Kent etc. Additionally the majority of people who live in London do not live next to Kings Cross/Victoria/Waterloo station, most live out in the outer zones which are very affluent and picturesque. There are bad places as per the theme of this thread, but every city has them, whether you are in Birmingham, Manchester, London, Paris, Munich, whatever.

This exactly. It’s all too easy to bash London - and there have been many threads on this very topic - but living here can be an amazing experience. The choice of bars, restaurants, theatres, museums and schools is astonishing (not to mention work possibilities). If you’re not interested in any of those then fine. Leave London to those who love living here.

Right, back to the theme of the thread...

Fair enough I rolled up both the comments, but to be honest most places are not easy to navigate when you first visit.

I called it a sthole and only live 20miles from central London, not in the outer Hebrides or something.

So is Putney a sthole? Mayfair? Chelsea? What about most of SW London? What about affluent parts of north London like Highgate? Brixton is highly diverse with tonnes of culture and a step on from the riots that plagued it years ago. Notting Hill? All stholes are they? Given London has 30+ boroughs covering over 600 square miles, all of this is a sthole? Compared to what?

rofl I seem to have touched a nerve. Please see the original post where the OP says he is spat at and fears leaving his car outside his house through fear of it being vandalised or stolen. His words, not mine.

There are some nicer areas of course but they don't escape the moped gangs and rife crime that is everywhere. I'm currently working in what is meant to be an affluent area within the Borough of Hillingdon, it's still a sthole and there are scumbags everywhere around here.

Compared to where? Smaller, nicer places just outside of London like Marlow, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross to name just a few to the West.

I think its just I find it hard to tolerate ignorance laugh Visited Marlow, mixed experiences for me, therefore people there are all rude and its a sthole. Hope that works for you too? Why anyone would live out in the sticks of Gerrards Cross? The tacky high street with all the major chains on it. What a sthole.

As for the OP, he lives in a city of 8m people. Because he said he is spat at because of his location that means you label the remaining 7,999,999 people in the same way who must all be under so much threat? I haven't been spat at. I have never even seen a moped crime happen. It does happen, but the chances of being a victim are so minute. You are more likely to be in a car accident than robbed by someone on a moped, but hey that does make good headlines for the Daily Mail.

I never said London was lovely. I said it had good parts and bad parts. You made the wide ranging claim that London is a sthole.

I simply then applied your logic - I have been to both Marlow and Gerrards Cross, met a few people, not the majority. Visited a small percentage of it, not all of it. Based on that experience I have declared both to be stholes - yet you don't seem to agree? I cannot understand why?

I bet you are the kind of guy that thinks all 80 million Germans are boring because you met one once laugh
