We’re coming up for a music event at the City Hall in June, any suggestions for a nearby hotel with secure parking? Any good Indian or Chinese restaurants nearby.?
We’ll almost certainly drive but out of interest how long would it take to walk at a leisurely pace from the Railway Station to City Hall? Thanks.

Can't help with Hotels Restaurants etc as I don't live there anymore but would say about 20 mins walk from Central Station to City Hall or catch the Metro from Central to Haymarket and then it's 5 mins walk down Northumberland Road from there.

We used the Grey Street Hotel after a recent gig at the City Hall (Level 42 FWIW) - really nice boutique hotel and not expensive, great breakfast too:

If on a budget the Gosforth Park Hotel is very cheap (but decent) but a taxi ride away.

Jesmond is a walk from the City Hall and there are quire a few hotels on Osborne Road which are okay and reasonably priced.

PS: the multi story on Dene Street is council owned and free overnight - it's less than 5 mins walk from the Grey Street Hotel.

Stowell Street (China Town) is a short distance and has loads of good restaurants. The great thing about Newcastle is it's a very compact city so everything is within 30 mins walk maximum.

I'd recommend Malmaison hotel on the quayside - parking is opposite in the Sandgate car park and is decent. It's uphill to the City Hall, but as Lotobear says, everything is within half an hour's walk or a short uber, if that's your thing.

city centre is easy to get to from surrounding places either by taxi or metro.

City Hall is about 1 minute walk from Haymarket metro and you can get the metro from the railway station - takes 2 minutes

Thanks for the replies folks, by coincidence a friend also recommended Grey Street Hotel so we'll book it. I'll decide on car or train and food nearer the time.

Restaurants:

Indian:
Simla (Quayside)
Sachins (behind the railway station)
Dabbawal (one in city centre and one in Jesmond)

Chinese:
King Neptune (Stowell Street near St James Park)
Geisha, Asian not Chinese in Sandyford not far from City Hall but very nice.
Mantra Thai (Quayside)

In terms of walking from Central Station to City Hall is about 15-20 minutes at a leisurely pace

Last time I was in Ncl for work I stayed at The Copthorne down on the river bank. I seem to remember it was pretty decent

One of the better ones for parking is Crown Plaza just up from the Quayside. Its about a 15 min walk to City hall but closer for decent restaurants.
(Sachins Indian is literally next door)

The parking is a multi story behind and the top floor is for the hotel. Couple of times ive parked there its been very quiet. I can be V anal about parking and would happily park there.

Grey St hotel doesnt have any parking. Nearest place is further down on Dean St. Not the best of Multi Stories though.
