Bit of a long shot here, but covering every avenue at the moment . I'm currently in the process of getting into property renovation and investment (buy-to-let). I'll be starting with properties the the local area (i.e Tees Valley, Durham, Scarborough) but in order to start off on the right foot I really need a local accountant/tax advisor (Cleveland area ideally) who specialises in the property industry.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Dunno, but if you find someone good, pass their number my way.

My property portfolio needs a good sorting out and I don't know how much money I'm wasting by not claiming tax breaks. BTW, my interestes are in Teeside/Durham - have you been speaking to the same people I have????

Quite possibly - I believe you mentioned this in a thread about Middlesbrough property a while back, so you might well have planted the seed . I've always been interested in pursuing this and due to a change of work circumstances, I've decided to go for it, full pelt. After a fair bit of reading up and research it transpires that the North East could be a veritable hotspot for property. High yields and low prices, coupled with high employment growth all point to good investment potential, at least I hope so

Only lead I seem to have got so far is www.taxassist.co.uk which have a regional office at Preston Farm Industrial Estate. I found this via www.landlordzone.co.uk/dir/accountants-taxation.htm. However the setup is a franchise operation so it probably won't offer the independent service I am after. Will probably still arrange a 'free initial discussion' with them though.

You could try Michael Gale in Chaloner Street, Guisborough. I dont think he specialises in Property but was recommended by my Financial Advisor. He does my tax returns and I have both buy-to-let and holiday rentals (different tax rules). I've yet to be disappointed by the cheque I get back from those very nice people at the Inland Revenue.

Tried sending it through PH again. In case you didn't get it I was just wondering if you could send me an email address for Michael Gale? I've got a phone number but as I'm hard-of-hearing I prefer to initiate contact via email.

Cheers, Dan
