sounds good to me Chris, might be heading to the cinema later though. Tom suggested we'd be meeting earlier, about 7:30 ish?

No, no Stefan. The Cinema is not an option!! This is a night of drunken, debauchery and mayhem. ie. We are going to meet up, have a few drinks then go out and engage in some more drinking and (for you single lads) hopefully the company of young ladies.

ah, but you see, I can't drink any more I feel ill if I have more than a pint, which I assure you is midly depressing.

We'll see tommorrow I guess (meant to be going out tonight as well. Still deciding on that one)

OK I've been out today getting a feel for this run. All looks good and I've identified 'Stefan Stones'. I have made a small change to the middle and final bits so that we can spend more time on interesting roads. I'll update the post above to show the changes.

I have a map with directions etc. on and route pace notes. Stefan is going to host these for us nearer the time.

I hope you all have fun, but when you are at the Lion think about the miners and rail workers (and their families) who worked at Blakey Rigg from about 1860 to 1920. This area was where they mined the iron ore which was taken to Teeside by rail for smelting into metal. It was then used for ships, bridges, and maybe even cars!

It must have been a cold, tough, existance for the people who lived on these moors all year round in all weathers.

Sorry for rambling on but my grandmother lived there as a child in the 1890's.

isn't indecision grand? I couldn't decide to post this or not, asked for Bob's approval (he's the organiser don't you know ).

Bob's stuff
* the map in jpg form (300kb)
* pace notes in pdf form (12kb)

my attempt at been helpful
the map in AutoRoute form, Morning, Afternoon. The "stop points" are designed to engineer the route rather than be Stefan Stones (MS sorts the best route rather than a planned route). I'm not entirely sure on the accuracy compared to Bob's idea's, but the roads are the same.

Directions from AutoRoute here

Extra info
A larger version of the map will be available nearer the time and indeed on the morning via Bob (he'll print some out).

ohh I want to attend - hopefully I'll have everything put back together then - I'll probably pull a sicky from work as it'll be too late to book holidays...

provided I get the GTi back up and running (it's a 205 GTi Bob, not a golf!!) I'll be there!

Dear All
I have no idea who you people are, but I am local (Co. Durham) and I am up for fun. I have some things that may influence your decision as to whether you want to absorb me into your group:-- in no particular order...

A baby-- 11weeks old, name of Dylan, vv cute
A lovely car-- Lotus Elise 111S Type 25
A slightly sad motorcycle-- Kwak ER5
A husband (I place this last because I am ashamed of it, for some reason it loves Harley-Davidson)

Even for like minded people to talk to,

please reply!!

hi wendy I am sure others will join me in agreeing that you are welcome to come along for a spot of caining through the N.yorks moors (might have to see if we can add you to the lunch booking if you do come along) - it's pretty much open to any NE PHers and you definitely qualify for that with an elise!

As Minimax has said you very welcome and I for one hope you can come along on 15th Feb. We are in dire need of some non-TVR owners, especially those with interesting motors like yours.

The day is organised to fit in with all levels of driving ability and age for that matter.

Please please come along. You will need to let me know how many so that I can book seats at the Lion Inn. Why not bring the car and the bike. That way hubby can feel included.

Damn, I really need to get that Marcos back on the road!

Is this event going to get a catchy name at all?
Run To The Ridge (sung in a Maiden style), Ridge Run, or how about TWATS Day Out?

Welcome aboard Wendy.
There's no turning back now!

Run to the Ridge sounds good. If it works well I was hoping to run it another couple of time over the year. Probably same pub with a variation on the roads.

A mate of mine has a route in North Yorks more to the west, with a stop off at a farm ice cream palour.
OK, so not exactly a pub, but I can vouch for the roads, and the ice cream!
Might be nice to try sometime.

West sounds good. We may hook some of the Yorkshire lot if we get a little further inland. We could have a Yorks/North East Blatt

Come rain or shine we're going for it. If it snows then I'll postpone.
