What's it like? Need to be near the centre of the country in this coming year, moving up from the south coast. Will still need to get to London couple of days a week but have done it from Leicester before and not so bad on the train.

We've found a few houses we like close to Bradgate Park in Cropston. Looks a nice little village and only 20 mins to Leicester according to the AA. Couple of decent looking pubs too in the village.

Any local knowledge or other recommendations in the area?

Cheers

It's not bad there at all, but if you want the full posh go to the other end of Bradgate Park at Newtown Linford.

Seriously though, that area is really nice. It’s surprisingly pretty and fairly rural (quite rolling landscape with plenty of trees) and yet there’s good road and rail connections and you CAN easily be in Leicester. (or Loughborough) in 20 minutes, Loughborough is a nicer town than Leicester although, obviously, there’s a lot more amenities there.
. Bradgate Park is lovely, particularly if you get off the main path and head out over the hills.
If schools are of interest there’s very good (private and state) schools in the area.
Downsides? None I can think off really except for Foxes fans everywhere smile

Leicester city centre is also much better than it used to be since the Shires was expanded and renovated into the Highcross.

Thanks for the views. We have friends in anstey and glenfield so are looking to be near them also. Cropston seems an ideal fit so far. thumbup

Have been doing furious house browsing and just came upon this. I love it and have intrepidation in equal measure. Can't believe the price either. Interested in views.

Glenfield is worth a look, though New Parks is a fking armpit, so careful how close you get.

Relatively, Earl Shilton isn’t such a nice area tbh

Looks decent, though my only knowledge of that area is that Watery Gate Lane (which takes you there) has a nice ford in it for splashing through.

Yep I know. My better half was born on Bonney Road. We lived with her mum last year for 9 months doing palliative care through cancer until she died at home. I had an A45 at the time. Kept me awake some nights

I know the location rule but in your opinion does the house make you think again or does the area scupper it? I don't know the area. Ta

You’d have to go and see the house. It looks great but running costs would probably be a lot higher than a similarly priced house in Brighton, ie. you get a lot more for your money.
I’m not keen on the area tbh, it’s all ways struck me as a bit flat and open but that’s just me.

Thanks Stuart. Yep I kinda get that. But this is quite a lot under budget, by quite a lot. Would give us a lot to play with. But the area we can't change. Would it kill it for you?

Sorry, went to bed!
It wouldn’t necessarily put me off, but the convience of the location for me would have to be better than others to swing it.
It wouldn’t work for me. It’s a bit to “ordinary” around there, a bit to far away from the towns like Loughborough and Leicester and a bit harder to get onto the main roads. Not by much, but enough to effect me. I really dont like Barwell which is next to it. I’m going to come a bit posh now(which I’m really not!) but I’ve always felt there’s a bit to many chavs and travellers around there!
It’s a lot of house for the money but there’s a reason for it imo.
It’s all fine degrees though and if you like the look have a look. It’s not like it’s next to a pig farm or shopping centre!

As a comparison, a quick search, there’s this down the road from me
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
Character property, no where near as big, and more money.
It may not tick any of your requirements, and it wouldn’t tick many of mine, but it’s more money for a reason. The location.

About 5 years ago, we moved from an area not so far from Earl Shilton, but not that near either, and our house is nothing special to look at it but it was the location that swung if for us in the end as it was more convent and the house more suitable for us as a family.

Incidentally, I don’t know what the situation at Mallory Park is these days but if the circuits still in use you be able to hear it!

Mallory
barlestone
newbold verdon

shilton is a tad low rent and far to close to barwell for my liking

Market Bosworth is very nice. A bit far from motorways if that is of importance though.

Appreciate the replies and the thoughts and thank you Stuart for taking the time to give your local knowledge, very helpful.

We'd already spotted the house you've linked but my other half has a hate for beams thing going on unfortunately. Personally I quite like it but it's a non starter. I think we are going to look at one in cropston on causeway lane. Looks nice, needs a bit of improvement but nothing major.
