Can anybody recommend a decent outfit?

Its been a while since I had anything interesting parked on my drive and I fancy treating myself over a weekend to something nice. After all, I deserve it.

Mainly it is for my 6 year old who has become obsessed with cars, and is constantly asking me if I am going to buy a racing car. Other than indulging myself I would love to see the look on his face if I did bring something back.

Nothing too exotic, was thinking M car of some description, also thinking of an Exige or equivalent. My first choice would be a Giulia Quadrifoglio but, you just can't find one of these available for hire.

Chuckle.

Yes. And no.

But as you say -a viable option.

I am just aghast at prices. I can stump up some money - but I fear for the argument about whether a stone chip is a stone chip or not. Particularly if the company owner is of a certain way.

There is a PH'r who set up a supercar hire business about 5 years ago. My understanding is that they don't actually own a lot of the cars - they have deals with private owners. But a search might find him - be originally posted a long thread about it in the business section I think.

I think Hertz are expensive. Thats a fair bit of dosh for one day when you think it excludes fuel and all the faffing getting it and dropping it back.

Thrifty were a good shout, around 100 a day for an M2 - much more like it. I'm sure as much fun as the R8.

Ah, but however much fun it is to drive - does an M2 look like a racing car to a 6 year old? wink

I've never known car hire anywhere that includes fuel and I wouldn't class an M2 as a supercar.

He has a racing game on his tablet of which the 2 series features.

I personally really like the M2, it may not quite be an M4 or M5 but hey, it is compact with a decent engine and hits 60 at around 4 and a half seconds, a few years ago the latest Ferrari's were offering the same stats. I am sure in capable hands it can be made to be a very entertaining drive.

I heard about the 24 hr drive and have spent a great deal of time speaking to my local 5 BMW dealers. None of them will offer it on any M car - one of them laughed at me even asking about it and said they would not offer ANY car out for 24 hours. The rest acknowledged the offer but state none of their M cars are included, plus stated many of their decent cars were not available anyway. So as suspected it was the usual hype about nothing. That said I have managed to get a 240 for a day, which is perfect, as I have been interested in this car for a long time and always wanted to have a go in one. The fact I managed to get this seems exceptional having spoken to the other dealers. They simply were not happy to offer anything like it.

Had a look and interestingly you can rent a BMW i8 for £200~ a day from Thrifty, which IMO does look like an exciting car.
