Hi,

We are off on our jollies this weekend to Cornwall.
Having never been, what are the must sees and hidden gems?

We plan on the Eden Project and have lunch booked at The Seafood Restaurant Padstow.
Apart from that, nothing concrete.
I'd quite like a go at surfing, any recommendations?

We are staying in Helston so recommendations for local pubs would be good!

Thanks!

Bank holiday weekend so traffic will be heavy, make sure you have decent live nav. If you haven’t try putting WAZE on your phone , gives speed cameras as well and is interactive so if anyone spots a mobile camera or other hazards they can add it for the benefit of others

My wife likes the Pollurian in million (I’ve not been) if you want a decent normal pub style meal then the Black Swan in Gweek is decent.

Padstow etc are a loooonng way form Helston and the roads are very busy at the moment so give yourself plenty of time and take snacks hehe

Agreed , parking is tough in the center of padstow , far easier to park in the car park at the top of the hill and walk down So don’t wear your stilettos. Lol

It would be similar to hell in Cornwall on a predicated nice bank holiday weekend.

We always venture down there either side of the summer holidays And it’s absolute bliss with very little traffic on the roads etc.

Having said that, if you fancy a walk, many of the coves are lovely places to visit, Coverack is beautiful and also has an awesome chippy!

A must is the Lizard!

The Blue Anchor in Helston is the best place to spend the weekend - Spingo and "half and half".

It's an amazing place, you'll love it.

Helston is great, make sure you check out the Lizard, go for a drive around the peninsular, go for a walk down to Lizard Point, it's stunning. Lots of good photo opportunities.

Helford River is really nice, worth exploring.

I would get over to Falmouth for an evening. Loads of really good restaurants and bars. Too many to go through, but off the top of my head:

Thai Orchid is really good
Cribbs Caribbean food
Hooked on the Rocks at Swanpool
The Wheel House
Pandora at Restronguet (try to arrive by boat or kayak - the road in is tight and busy!)

Definitely pop down to Mylor as it's beautiful. My girlfriend's parents used to live there. Check out Mylor Boat hire, you can rent a RIB if you have a qualification, or if not, just a small river boat or a kayak and explore the Estuary.

St Mawes is really nice for a drive around too.

There's a nice little Morgan dealership out in the countryside at Perranwell which is worth a look into.

Any questions, just ask. I've explored a lot of Cornwall.

Also check out the café or Castaways bar at Mylor.

I live a couple of miles out of Helston. I don’t bother much with the pubs in town most of the time. Blue Anchor is okay for a sample of their beer, I can’t stomach it! You could try a burger in BooKoos, fairly well rated place. The Bell and The Rodney are right over the street are friendly places, you can take your burger over with you!
The Queen’s Arms in Breage is my recommendation for a good Sunday roast, lunchtime or evening. Give me a shout and I’ll join you! Good beer selection, sometimes music at weekends too. About 10 minutes to drive from anywhere in Helston. The Halzephron Inn is nice for an evening sit outside if the weather’s good. Somewhere a bit different for a good meal is The Yard Bistro at Trelowarren, Mawgan just off the road to Coverack. Also down that way is Roskilly’s, the ice cream place, but they also do steaks (from own herd), pizzas and kids stuff most evenings. Animals to coo over for kids and nice walks round the gardens.

Porthleven’s got the best variety of restaurants and cafes in the area, Kota Kai and The Square are the best. Weekend brunch on the green outside Kota Kai at the harbour head is good. I’d take P’leven over the long drag up to Padstow any time! Best Fish & Chips for miles at Porthleven Fish & Chips https://goo.gl/SDEKsG take them down by the harbour and munch away while enjoying the view, then walk round to The Ship for a pint or a G&T! If you can get a table, The Grove between Helston and Breage is a great restaurant. Anywhere you think you’ll want to eat at, book early or you won’t get in!
