It's called summat different now...
...but all Nottishamers of a certain age will have very fond memories of this view. 43 years ago this very day I dived off that mezzanine (only luckily to be grabbed by my mates). I can still see the crowd parting beneath me.

As I remember we let the Dutch score one goal which then eliminated the Scots. I watched the Germany game in the Navigation pub down by the canal, after the match I walked back through town on my way home and was amazed at the fking idiots smashing shop windows in the city centre because we lost.

Is that Yates "wine lodge"Back in the day, ( string quartet music times ),the upper floor walls were painted with scenes from Sherwood, Robin Hood etc. Sadly painted over in orange and mushroom emulsion paint and no doubt several extra layers since.
I went in when bouncers at the doors appeared, occupancy numbers controlled by a lass with clipboard, and ear busting techno music accompanied by flashing disco lights. I lasted 5 minutes ! Tell me its since changed ?
Gone were the 'characters, - anybody remember Albert Brown, who was in most nights.
I crossed the road to try The Bell ( I had my 21st there, upstairs courtesy of Mrs Jackson ) and found they had moved the back room bar from one side to the other. Nothing to offer reassurance to a guy familiar with the comfort of the old days.
I thought all was lost when The Corner Pin became the Disney shop !
Right now, The Trip is my last resort for sanity.

Yes it was.
Our hero - Arthur Seaton is shown meeting his lady friend on the Nottingham Castle terrace overlooking the Meadows.
Back in the day, it was railway marshalling yards and industrial workshops with steam engine smoke mixing with the coal fired chimneys of the terrace houses.
All that has gone now, replaced by the Castle Marina business / retail park and HMRC complex soon to be University teaching space.

Yes I remember it being a bit grim and depressing. I live in Bridgford so know the area well. As you say it’s all changed now. Didn’t know Castle Marina was a railway yard. Most of the industry has now gone, I used to go into Royal Ordanance which is now all units and car garages. Our hero - Arthur Seaton is shown meeting his lady friend on the Nottingham Castle terrace overlooking the Meadows.
