Birmingham art gallery is huge and will kill a few hours and is free, home to the Staffordshire hoard too.

And if you're up there it's worth a look at Newman Brothers coffin works museum and the JQ museum itself, there's a pen museum too but that's pretty limited appeal.

A wonder around the cemetry can be interesting, the catacombs part, but won't take that long and might be home to spiced out vagrants at the moment.
