Heads up - new SPECS cameras installed on the A38 Saltash Tunnel.

This is supposedly only a trial of the first use of SPECS in the South West. Not clear what happens when the trial ends, but chances are they'll stay.

Don't get caught out. This is a popular route for TVR's and the like, for obvious reasons!

THANKS PETE,MY LICENCE MAY LIVE TO FIGHT ANOTHER DAY,I THINK TVR OWNERS SHOULD USE THE "CORIN DENTON RULE OF TUNNELS" AFTER COMING OVER THE BRIDGE GRADUALLY SLOW THE TRAFFIC BEHIND YOU DOWN TO A WALKING PACE,THEN WHEN SAFELY INTO THE RUMBLE ZONE AND SAFELY INTO 1ST GEAR,LIGHT THE BOY UP AND WHEN GRIP FINALLY KICKS IN ITS ON WITH THE ANKERS AND CRUISE OUT AT 30 MPH,LEAVING THE NEXT 50 OR SO CARS SMELLING THE SWEET SMELL OF TIV RUBBER TO INHALE,UNLUCKY ALL YOU ANTI SMOKERS THE SOUND IS AWESOME!!!

I know this technique and have used it myself once or twice (on private roads of course).

The trouble with SPECS is they measure the time taken to travel between the two sets of cameras. As the disance between the cameras is known it is possible to determine if you have on average exceeded the limit in that distance!

Of course if one's front number plate was to "fall off", the SPECs scameras can't read your number and thus don't know where to sent the ticker too

Does anyone know if there have been any fatal accidents in the Saltash tunnel?

Oh it's a real 'back spot' with an orphanage halfway through the tunnel (just opposite the nursing home) kids running around everywhere!

Local BBC television news said they were SPECS, but happy to accept they are not if you have heard otherwise!

Don't think I'll be taking any chances though.

Talking about Specs. . . . looks like the A30 Gossmoor around the iron bridge is getting them. (Victoria to St Mawgan turning)

They have been messing around with them for ages now. I reckon they are waiting for the busy season, to see how many tourists they'll catch.

Other than the Roche turning (near the bridge) how can they say the speed on this road is a danger? The only accidents are the stupid lorry drivers who try and get under the bridge even though they are too high.

Funny . . I saw a car transporter parked in a layby near the bridge a few weeks back. Lovely 4x4 mitsubitshi's on it. The one at the front on top had an open top! Peeled back like a sardine tin, where it hit the bridge.

Looks like SPECS to me. Everyone crawls through now at 30mph EXACTLY, however several times over the past few weeks the speed safety camera vans have been parked in the bushes along the A38 towards Liskeard.Take it easy out there..zz

If they are specs then why are the robbing van driving bastards hiding in the bushes ? They look nothing like Specs cameras . The ones at Goss moor i havent seen but i think you will find they are for HGV's to make sure they dont clout the bridge , Anyway we are so far behind in the southwest for technology that when somebody said about specs 50 new branches of specsavers appeared

These are new. Not the sensors for the idiots in the trucks.

I'll post a pic in the next few days.

The Scameras in the tunnel and on Goss Moor are all definitely SPECS. Can be recognised by two IR illuminators sitting each side of the tax gatherer.
