Also posted in holiday and travel but though i'd try the regional side too.

I'm going to Woolacombe for a weeks holiday in October and was hoping any fellow PHer could recommend places to go and see or actives to do.

We're looking at go ape but wondering if there's anything else.

What are you looking for?

North Devon has some dramatic coastline with the SW Coastpath, Exmoor on the doorstep & some beautiful beaches. Also some great driving roads.

Shopping wise you'll struggle, Atlantic Village is crap I think (never been) & theren't really any large towns as such.

Valley of the Rocks is worth a visit, as are Lynton & Lynmouth. Clovelly is a go to destination too, never actually been myself. Ilfracombe worth a visit, if only to see Verity!

Head down to Tintagel to see the home of King Arthur, Nectans Glen etc?

We're definitely not looking at shopping more outdoor stuff such as walks, beaches, etc. i think we're going to do a cycle route https://www.tarkabikes.co.uk/trail-routes but yeh just things to keep us occupied and well if i can slip in a few bits of driving road routes then i won't say no so any of those you can suggest i can make sure to make a diversion onto them haha!

The cycling Coast to Coast route starts in North Devon, 100+ mls down to Plymouth! Or just do a section or two! Plenty of other trails around, walking & cycling & did I mention, it's a stunning part of the country smile

We did one of these last time we were in Barnstaple. Very cheap, lasts a couple of hours and gets you to look around the place and notice things you normally wouldn’t.

byebye We are Woolacombe/Lee bay based, hope you enjoy it here smile

October is a great time of the year, but a little awkward as most "interesting" places have just closed down for the year.

However, valley of the rocks, south west coast path, Bull point lighthouse, Lee bay beach and the grampus, Broomhill sculpture gardens.

If you want any restaurant recommendations etc, just shout smile

Putsborough Beach is lovely and there is a nice walk out to Baggy Point.

Great fish and chip restaurant in Braunton, I forget its name but you can't miss it.

Saunton Sands Hotel, nice location crap service.

If too late, then hope you enjoyed your holiday!

If not too late, take a look at Lynmouth and take the hydraulic powered lift to Lynton. As others have said, Valley of the Rocks - nice valley, lots of rocks yeah yeah all very nice but the big attraction is to get a selfie with the big billy goat with the HUGE bo££ocks! wink I got one years ago and I've had so many laughs out of that photo!

Lynton and Lynmouth. Then walk from there to the top of the valley of the rocks. Spectacular views. Clovely is also lovely and even steeper. Croyed is great for surfing. Oh and there is the steamer out to Lundy, if it is running this time of year. Some great roads around there too. Have a good one.

Thanks everyone, we are unfortunately back from Devon now. We had such a great time down there it's such a pretty part of the UK. Big thanks to sidekickdmr for answering all my questions you were really helpful with all your suggestions! I think we will be going back at some point next year hopefully in late spring / summer time so fully enjoy the beaches and walks.

We went to Lynn & Lynmouth and went down the victorian lift which was great fun and really interesting to see how it works, that little town is really beautiful and had a lovely cream tea there even if it was close to £20!!!

Went down to Lee which i don't think i will ever do again. Driving down a single lane and when i say single i mean we passed walkers with a dog who had to climb a bank into a bush so i could get past single wasn't fun. I was petrified my car would get scratched or hit by someone / tractor going like 40mph and coming round a corner so yeh that wasn't fun but the rest was awesome!

No worries at all, glad you enjoyed it!

Re: the road to Lee, I can only assume you mean the back road from morthoe, as that road really is, very very narrow! Nobody really uses it for that reason, but some sat navs (including my dads BMW NAV, which might explain why you were there) insist on taking people that way.

The main road into lee is still single, but nice and wide and plenty of passing places.

Me and a couple of Petrolhead mates take our cars to the Lynton Classic each year. Its one of the few car events that I can get my wife to come to.
