Hallo everyone,

Recently moved to Bristol and met a girl from WSM (poor her...), want to take her to a nice traditional pub with the low beams, log fire, thatched roof, hundreds of years of history kind of vibe.

I've been out to the Mendips on my bike a few times but not yet set out towards the coast yet, around that area.

What are the outstanding pubs you know of in this area? Mendips would also work, Cheddar perhaps.

Thanks in advance.

The Black Horse in Clapton in Gordano (known locally as the Kicker). Great crowd sat outside on a sunny Saturday or Sunday. Very cosy by the fire on a cold Winter evening. Food is good.

My wife and I have eaten here several times over the years and have always enjoyed decent food.

The Litton at Litton is absolutely superb, hidden away in the Mendips it offers crackling wood fires, cosy corners, excellent food and fantastic range of drinks.

Their Sunday roast is excellent although worth booking first, it does get busy.

The White Hart at Cross is also excellent.

Thanks guys. Will give the Black Horse a try as it is near her work - then if all goes well, can tick off the rest of the suggestions at later dates ;D.

So, things went well and she is up for date 2. Managed to block the parking area so made a few enemies at the Kicker, hahaha. Oops.

Thanks for the extra recommendations guys.
