Would any Cornish PHers be interested in a regular Cars & Coffee style event in St Mawes on the south coast?

There are some great cars resident out here (a pre-war Bentley, an Aston DB4, numerous Ferraris etc) and obviously lots of great modern stuff around Truro but seemingly nothing other than one event a year to gather at (St Mawes classic rally usually attended by David Richards and Nick Mason, amongst others).

St Mawes is a fantastic 20-30 minute drive from Truro and only 45-50 minutes from Hayle or Padstow/Wadebridge and there’s now a great coffee van at St Mawes Castle.

Anyone interested?

Shhh! Don't tell everyone about the lovely B road drive down to St Mawes...

But, yes, there does seem to be a dearth of Cars and Coffee type events down here. I did have a flyer for something at St Agnes but Covid seems to have scuppered anything in the foreseeable. It would be great to have something to look forward to, at least from the spring onwards.

Agreed, and particularly in light of tonight’s news!

These things tend to go best with a car club at the heart. Are there any Porsche/Ferrari/TVR/Lotus/MG/Mini/Jaguar clubs which are particularly active around Cornwall?

I have a few cars which tend to attract interest to bring down (F430 Spider, 1954 MGTF, 599 GTB and something else joining soon) and friends with other interesting things.

I'm afraid I can't advise on local owner clubs (moving from tuned Mini to Porsche this year hopefully myself) but a couple of decent events I went to in 2019 were Wadebridge Wheels (https://www.wadebridgewheels.co.uk/) and the Watergate Bay Hillclimb which was organised by Truro and District Motor Club.
I think they run the odd sprint/hillclimb event, and I did actually watch the Tour of Cornwall rally many years ago (with the Metro 6R4s in action!) when I last lived down here.
But looks like nothing in the way of Cars & Coffee type events, maybe that's not their bag. Perhaps there are some groups on Facebook, but the last time I checked nothing stood out. If anyone else knows?

Hi, I'd be interested and would like to attend. I've got a VXR8 to bring along.
I went to Wadebridge Wheels and Watergate Bay Hill Climb as well.
Also get up to Spitfire Raceway at Perranporth when it's running for drag racing and to watch the drifting.
They tried to organise a Sunday morning meet as well and went to a couple of them.
All seems very quiet since Covid, but would be good to have a cars and coffee down here. Used to be plenty in the North West before I moved down a few years ago.

Great car! Would love to see it.

I'll enlist some family members to drive - I keep a 1954 MG TF, F430 Spider and 599 GTB in St Mawes and will have something else to bring along before lockdown finishes.

I'm going to set up an Instagram profile for this to see if we can gather a little momentum but guess timing is likely to be Spring. Will publish that to the Facebook groups so do let me know if there any I need to hit that you check out or are well used.

PS saw a lovely new GT4 on the road today - will see if I can find the owner.

Unfortunately not, have taken the TVR down before from the North West.

I am sure I can get a few of us from the Cornwall Region of the BMW Car Club GB to come along. We usually attend Wadebridge Wheels and Mount Edgcumbe shows too. Sounds good.

Hi Twinchoke,

That would be great. Is the group quite active? Modern/older or a mixture?

I don’t want to push water uphill but I think something regular that brings clubs etc together could be a lot of fun.

There are so many great cars tucked up in garages that don’t get enough of a run-out and I think a LOT of cars and owners would come out of the woodwork if they knew it was happening reliably and on a regular basis.

Hi Giles993,

yes we have a core of active members with a mix of some older and modern BMWs. It would be great to have a local cars and coffee meet plus the drive down to St Mawes as a bonus. I am sure it would generate interest in the club.

Look forward to it.

I’d love a cars and coffee type of a thing local to Truro! (Really do miss the car events from when we lived in Bristol/Bath) - and that St.Mawes road is tip top!

Hi Giles,

Well the road there from Truro is a great drive and St.Mawes is always nice for a wander, so sounds a good spot to me.

On Sunday this week coming, we have a small meet at 10am Cornwall services.
Was thinking Bude for the drive out and maybe back through St Austell down to St Mawes.
If anyone fancy coming your all welcome.
