Always be extra vigilant anywhere near Devizes as the Wilts hq is there, so it's marked an unmarked galour! Also if driving through Avebury, as there is sometimes a scamera parked by the Conservative club on the 90degree corner heading out to Devizes. Oh and there is sometimes a scamera just after Mikes Tyres entering Devizes from Pewsey direction (the Nursteed industrial estate).

The Dark Blue volvo V70 everyone knows about hangs around J28 Cullumpton to Exeter southbound, always on a friday, this weekend was the 3rd time ive seen it pull someone in as many weeks all about 4.30 5 o'clock.

Silver Octy vrs anywhere near Exeter M5 always seems to be Five O, ive never seen a silver one thats not.
Silver St220 always full of coppers doing training from middlemoor, another Mondeo St220 in performace blue patrols the A30.
Anyone seen the 07 plate Jag in green or dark colour ?, first time for me, its the big one S type I think, got flashed the blue lights as a warning, shit myself, I flew past it a ton, this was between Bodmin and Exeter Northbound.

I do big miles all over the southwest, now I know this thread is here I will get some registrations up.

Cheers

Fellow Westcountrier.

not unmarked, & not a police car, but still probably going to end up with a ticket...

Lorries blocking the view of the mobile Speed camera van at the side of the road till too late
78 in a 70, hopefully....within tollerances, but still p1ssed off.
Not even time to smile for the camera...

ETA location..may help! a38 north bound out of Plymouth by Langage exit

im more pissed off I did'nt clock the stream of brake lights or the fact they have been hanging around for a few weeks, funnily enough peak times...
I think im going to go up there & put some concentrated human sweat down as a scent, possibly the worst smelling thing you can imagine. Just a tea spoon would do it! That should keep them away for a while!!!

i frequently use that stretch of road and average 40k yearly covering the sw. i allways, upon passing a scamera on the opposite side flash the lights to on coming traffic, but have yet to experience any one returning the favour. HGV usually aknowledge.
A guy was taken to court a couple of years ago doing this and charged with hinderence but it was thrown out as the police could not prove he stopped any one speeding

Saw the camera van there today. sneaky place to park! (just before traffic joins '38 at plympton, on the grass verge) was tempted to flash but got scared!
are you sure you cant get done for it?? would hate to flash a cop car going the other way!lol

doing 50k a year on the a38 so know pretty much all the speed traps etc.
one favorite is at Newton Abbot (trago junction) just before the junction there is an old building thingy on the left, THERE! they sit on the driveway of it ready to fly off but you cant see it till you're on it.

always remember, if there is no slip-roads, bridges, lay-bys or hiding places, then you're 99% safe to leg-it!!

Plymouth - Embankment road. 2 unmarked Focus ST's in high speed convoy.
One silver and IIRC the other was blue (maybe black).
Didn't see any of the usual give away signs (appart from the blue flashing lights that is).

Maybe they're trying to infiltrate the local cruises! The cars actually looked quite nice clap

Interestingly the Gatso's didn't flash and they were well above the speed limit.
Maybe this needs a topic of it's own...

Just up the road from Southmead Hospital, 10am today. Note what looks like a rear-facing camera mounted on the roof.

I know a man who fits out the equipment in these, I'll ask...

ETA:

The fitter tells me it's an infra-red emitter which means the camera below can read plates in the dark and across all lanes of the motorway. The emitter was colour coded by him 'cos he's really anal about his job and likes things to look nice.

There are front facing cameras too and some other fancy bits to assist evidence gathering.

The new ANPR will read up to 3000 plates per shift as opposed to the old ones which read up to 300. Plates can also be read at high speeds - don't even think about belting past the BiB, you'd have to be going almost impossibly faster than them for the camera not to get you.

It also means they can swiftly circulate a car park of stationary vehicles and get readings.

He's recently fitted 12 in Avon & Somerset, 24 in Gwent and is now working across in the eastern counties.

If you're out there and you shouldn't be, they'll get you!

biggrin
