Well - apologies for falling off the face of the planet, but I am resurrecting the previously proposed idea of a meet in Ewen near Gloucestershire.

It is a private, gated site so we can control those who attend. I just need to figure out exactly when we will be able to run it as we are rather busy.

Give me a week or so and I shall pop up a proposal in a seperate thread.

Chin-chin,

Rich

Queens square is a public road so it's going to be impossible to only allow certain genres of car in.
agreed - and who decides what can or cant be a part of the meet!?

just because someone can afford to go buy a £120k DBS from the garage yet has no idea how it works should not give them primacy over someone with a £1k mx5 that has had a lot of love and time and effort put into it.

ok its not a cruise but what can and can't be parked up isn't for debate.... if its so important to get a slot, turn up early and be enthusiastic and stay by your car and answer Qs or put a spec sheet in the windscreen and some pics?

don't make it a "look at the size of my wallet" event

I'd like to see both of those cars at a meet. That's part of the attraction of Queen Square for me, the variation in cars from an F40 to a mk1 Fiesta and everything in between. I used to do a lot of the VW shows, but lost interest after seeing the same thing at every show, so the QS meet is a nice change. I'm just an old anti social git though and I preferred the meet when it was a bit smaller, where you could park up at 0730 - 0800, go for a wander and a bacon sandwich and not come back to find your car blocked in. The boy racer element bugs me a bit too, partly as my wife works in QS and I am there twice a day, so I do have some sympathy for the people that live and work there.

Great news Rich! I'll look forward to hearing more soon then.

On another note - some of you have clearly not read the previous posts thoroughly and some of you don't seem to appreciate just how much time, effort and sometimes money too goes into organising events like this.

Roads could be closed and entry controlled with agreement from the council (just like they do with dozens of other events every year in Bristol) so yes, what enters a meet actually could be controlled if needs be. An organised event is just that - organised, it is not a free for all for anyone in any car they like to show up. The organisers do have the right to be selective or every classic car show in the country would be full of modern day boy racer junk! I help organise kit car meets and events, tin tops do not show up because it's a KIT CAR meet!

What some of you seem to be proposing is just doing the current Queen Square meet twice a month - pointless really. The whole point of trying to arrange another meet with more 'interesting' or classic or kit or exotic cars is so we then have two interesting meets every month and not just one mass free for all with 50% boring cars, nowhere to park, people getting blocked in and the old bill crawling all over it due to the ill behaviour of a certain element. The current Queen Square meet has come so close to being shut down so many times in recent years because of a few idiots, it has turned from a great classic car meet into a fiasco at times.

Grahamdub - you are on the money my friend!

I do now actually know of another classic car event that is well attended and properly run but tbh I have no intention of posting the details on here as I get the real impression it could just end up like Queen Square. If people don't show the organisers the respect the event deserves and just hijack it with mundane run of the mill non classic cars as seems to be the attitude of some people on here - the ones that have completely missed the point - then it would just be ruined.

As I said before, the current Queen Square meet is what it is and there's nothing wrong with that, I enjoy it myself and attend when I can but what I am hoping for is another meeting that is 'different' from that one, we don't need two of them and if you do then that's easy, just do it fortnightly, maybe each one would be a little less crowded that way?

I look forward to seeing what Rich (PoshTwit) can make of his event - good luck Rich and if kit cars are allowed in the mix just let me know and I will do my best to drum up some support from our crowd, bearing in mind that we are often very weather dependent!

Very well said, I'd be up for this. We recently attended a meet @ Haynes and although I'm not a car snob, some of the tat that was on display in the front carpark was laughable. For example there was a Chrysler Cruiser on display, a bright Orange SV Aventador turned up and was sent to the wet, grassy parking at the rear with the rest of us, no sense to it. Needless to say the Lambo didn't stick about!!!
I would strongly recommend an invite only FB page to avoid a mass turn up that used to happen when we organised a meet at Cheddar through PH, that turned into a right nightmare!!!

I do like the mix of cars at QS, but like you say, there are limits. PT Cruiser convertible maybe, but the tin top ?!
(That was a joke btw, PT Cruisers main use is to make New Beetles look good biggrin)

Well I'm glad someone agrees at least, I did think I may offend a few people with what I said, but I am just trying to get the point over that we don't need another QS, we need something different, or at least that is my view anyway.

Invite only meets do seem to work quite well but are hard work to organise especially for someone like me who is not really of the FB generation. I'd have to employ a teenager!!!! laugh

If you want invite only your probably better off not using facebook.

Once you ( or somebody else) has posted it every car club in the sw will know about it and your powerless to do anything about it.

I use FB for private events already and with a closed, invite only, group we have no problems.

Mr Twit has my ear and admin support with his idea already and it will be fab if his time constraints can be managed smile

If you just went there to wander around at others cars then there`s the reason why others complain when they get blocked in, if its not there to be looked at then leave room for others who have cars to be seen.

Apart from the fact none of you are in the position to say who can or can't park in a public carpark .

Let's not forget queens square is a public carpark that you/we borrow once a month , once a private location is sourced then the criteria of car that's welcome can be introduced .

Wardens here today in force and taking no prisoners. Plus the old bag who lives here storing things up. Shame.
