Classics in Queen Square

I've been going to this for about 12 years or more, when it was the Avenue drivers club, I remember when only two of us turned up one Sunday when it was snowing, and that was with the guy I drove down with, there was no politics, it didn't matter what you drive, there was plenty of room to park, that's what made it sweet. Whats this queen square breakfast club that's taken over? Why does the breakfast club feel the need to 'thank' people for turning up every month? As though people are invited & its an event that needs promoting etc? I don't need thanking, if there's a better place for me to be i'd be there, I havn't been for a few months as I think i've kind of seen it all, i've had parking tickets, bacon rolls, coffees, cringed & winced as Merc AMG 63's bounced off rev limiters & nova boys wheel spin out the square, i'm not really old (still ride BMX) & if you check my profile you'll probably recognise my car but it seems this event has become a place to 'be seen at' rather than just car lovers meeting up on a Sunday. Ah i'll probably be there next month

I have all but given up going since it became the Queen Square Breakfast Club. Too much inconsiderate parking and driving in my grumpy old gits opinion. The location is / was part of the charm of the event and moving it somewhere else would spoil it for me and just turn it into another generic car park meet. I wasn't at this months event as I was at the Classic Car show at the NEC, but I may pop down for the December one to see what it's like. Edited by anonymous-user on Tuesday 14th November 22:11

Chap called Tony (can't remember his surname) ran the ADC and used to send an email out every month confirming the meet. Then it got more popular and the QSBC appeared on Facebook. Tony seemed to drop out of it and the emails stopped. The QSBC then seemed to take over "arranging" the meets. I stand to be corrected on any of the above as I don't personally know Tony and I don't do Facebook, so missed a lot of the early QSBC stuff.

At the end of the day somebody popping into the city to do a bit of shopping has as much right as anyone else to park in queens sq ?

I used to bump in to Tony every month & he used to keep it sweet with the powers that be so it was never to much of a problem, think it became to big to not go unnoticed anymore.egor110 said:

With cars arriving from 0730, there aren't many shoppers around. It's just the odd resident or cars left from the Saturday night. I have seen a few pissed off contractors arriving to do a bit of Sunday overtime to find they can't park their van though.

The ADC certainly didn't give the impression it was a right. More it was a scenic, convenient location with local cafes willing to open for the morning. The current meet has outgrown the square and if it continues growing, it will get effectively banned by the powers that be. Grahamdub said:

I have been attending since probably 2010. Great to have such an eclectic mix of cars / bikes /trucks & even tanks! All you had to do was wake up &, if the sun was shinning, get in the car & go.I attend the Bristol Italian Auto Moto Show, which is in jeopardy because the Council (perhaps understandably) insist on insurance / road closures etc etc The ADC worked so well because there were no organisers as such - promotion being by word of mouth. Put simply the lack of organisers meant the authorities had no one to contact, no one to press for public liability insurance etc

Well put. I am certainly not a regular, but what attracted me to the earlier meets was it was so laid back with a mix of different cars and owners. The more recent ones are definitely a Facebook EVENT. Well put. I am certainly not a regular, but what attracted me to the earlier meets was it was so laid back with a mix of different cars and owners. The more recent ones are definitely a Facebook EVENT. This thread had passed me by til now. It'd be interesting to hear if an alternative to QSBC can be arranged. I've attended a couple of times and whilst mine probably doesn't qualify as a classic I'd be there in an instant if welcome- there isn't really any appeal to me in seeing lease cars and tarted up hatches, it detracts from the genuinely interesting and exotic stuff that turns up.
I went along yesterday (14th) and I was quite surprised by a fairly healthy turnout, considering it's January.
There were quite a large number of Police in attendance though, including two officers on foot patrol, and a fair few laps by a couple of marked cars.
Interestingly though no traffic wardens and I didn't see a single ticket.
Sadly a couple of chavvy types making a bit of noise were in attendance too!
My personal favorites were the Bristol Fighter in metallic blue (one of only 9 ever built apparently) and the '32 Ford hot rod in Black

+1Been to QS a few times, but buy no means a regular. A good number of interesting cars at each meet, but lots of chavved up hot hatches and othr pretty mundane cars too. After attending last time I did think to myself it would have been a better meet if there was a ban on FWD cars less than 15 years old.
Went to Queens Square for the first time in a while.
Had 2 police men walking around the square and 1 police van driving round the square.Also saw a lady talking to the police man in the van. She had registration numbers written down on a yellow piece of paper. There was also a blue sign on the pavement stating ''Police. Slow''
I thought the selection of vehicles there was very nice this morning.
