Hi, I have taken the plunge and bought a late 04 996 and am looking for recommendations of garage/specialists in the area to change the ims/clutch and general service.
Any thoughts, help or advice would be great.
Thanks

You have a main agent in Ferndown, they were excellent at looking after my ageing 3.2 Carrera.

Thanks Huntsman, I have paid them a visit for some caliper bolts which I recently changed when doing discs and pads all around and they just can't compete on price compared to an independent. I'm likely to use them for general service to get the stamp though!

I know someone who used ray west at thruxton a few years ago for some tuning and servicing on a GT2 and was very pleased with them

If not to far might be worth doing a bit of research

Others on here could possibly better advise

Isn't there an Indy on the Ferndown industrial estate?

There's JMG Porsche near Ferndown http://www.jmgporsche.co.uk/.

By choice I took my Cayman to Purbeck Sports Cars at Holton Heath http://purbecksportscars.co.uk/contact/. Although John specialises in TVR and Lotus he is experienced with Porsches.

I've not heard good things about JMG and remarkably they quoted substantially more for a major compared to the main dealer. The dealer seems to be surprisingly competitive with fixed priced servicing on the 996. On top of that they usually give you half decent courtesy cars e.g. cayman S / Macan. Very impressed with the overall service, the only time my car has seen someone else was 9E for a big amount of work which made it worth the drive(4k+ bill)

I'd second Brookspeed. Always done a good job and been helpful on my Boxster..

That's my experience of them too.

I actually used Purbeck Sports Cars for my old 987 Cayman S. They were really good when I needed work doing, they replaced the clutch, flywheel and some other parts. I use Porsche Centre Portsmouth for my new Boxster S now though.

Can highly recommend Andy at A W Motorsport - http://www.awmotorgroup.co.uk
He's looked after my Boxster (along with servicing at OPC Portsmouth) for the last few years and I've been very impressed with him.
Tell him Luke with the Boxster sent you.

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions, after speaking to many of you I settled on the work being done by JMB Automotive (find them on facebook)James, the proprietor, is an ex OPC technician who has worked in OPC Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Dubai. the work completed has been to a high standard, taking photos along the way and offering advice of areas needing attention and conversely areas not worth spending money on. My car was picked up and delivered from my home address and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
