Any other Isle of Wight residents on PH?

We're overners, moved over in June this year, currently living in Cowes.

Anybody member of the IOW car club?

My girlfriend's parents live in Wellow, neat Yarmouth. We live near Lymington, so often get the Lymington to Yarmouth ferry to visit them. We usually cycle, too expensive to take the car!

We nearly bought a house in Thorley, just along from Wellow.

There's at least one other PH'er over here, I need to find his username and alert him to this thread (which given time may develop)

Cool. Their next door neighbour has some a few classic cars tucked away.

We'll be taking the Porsche over at Christmas I expect.

Yes and Yes(I think, I forget when I last managed to find the time. If I'm not then I was and probably will be again when I've a: put the car back together and b: finished my nppl so I have enough time to spend messing about with cars).

There are several iowcc members on here, I don't know how many of them are likely to have seen this though.

Yup, I’m an Islander but lived around Europe, but back on the Island, run a 500e, Corvette C5 and a VW T6, but always had boats and sailed around the Atlantic, plus built the same.

Nice spot St Helens, love the secondhand book shop.

We plan to live in the West Wight when we buy a place, we'll see!

IOWCC has an event next Saturday, we're going to take a look.

Military Road out of Freshwater bay has been resurfaced and really is quite epic in a fast car but the rest of it is ste depending on what you are driving

Yes I heard it had been resurfaced. It was appalling up until then.

I have an Elise Cup version so the low splitter on the front is going to be interesting getting on the ferry.

A lot of the west side of the island has been resurfaced. It's really nice now. Broad Lane is a nice little rally stage, it's quite well sighted for the most part. Just mind the dog walkers and pheasants!

Broadland is one of the options for the CC fir a closed road motorsport event - bit if a dream - but not too many yocals to inconvenience and one can get some serious pace with a couple if nice twisties in the middle . A very nice day if sprinting methinks. In the interests of research I have tried it several times in the R500

Could someone recommend (from experience) a good place to do wheel balancing and geo set up please?

We are thinking of moving to the Isle of Wight and winder if it’s best to replace our ageing car before we move over there or buy one when we are there? Some folk say it’s better to get one over there with low mileage and a local number plate. Are they more expensive though?
BTW, the Isle of Wight Overners Facebook Group is full of information about buying houses over there.

Bring your ageing car. Its a striking difference over here to where we were in Southampton. Much less high end German metal. No white Evoques! Over here there is a lot more bangernomics, a lot more people running around in small vans, like Berlingo's. Masses of VW campers of all ages, they use them as beach vans.

Where it seems on the mainland people wear their car like a posh watch, over here, its more like France, just a tool to get around in.

There is so little traffic, we find we use the car more! There is a supermarket fuel price war and its cheaper here than the mainland prices we were paying.

The DL plates do have a following, but its not a big deal, there is even a DL plates book.

I did join that FB group when I saw your post, but left again, too much traffic on it for me.

RAC have 2 vans over here permanently.

Totally agree with this........^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I spend a lot of time in Normandy and the IOW, there are remarkable similarities. The French van culture is spot on for the Island although the eye watering speeds they can do there are not going to work in this part of Blighty.

As for the German car/Evoque gang..............they have their own meet in Seaview every August smile
