Was walking the dog along the prom between Sandbanks and Bournemouth when a Spitfire made two low passes. It looked like a two seater but the sun made it difficult to see. Most people stopped and watched due to the stunning noise it made. Does anyone have any idea why it flew over today

If it’s the 2 seater it’s likely someone has paid for the privilege. The local ones are based at Lee on solent and Goodwood. I hear them most days in the solent.

My brother-in-law is good friends with one of the chief support engineers who looks after the Spitfire.

I think a Spitfire is about to embark on a tour of the globe and the support engineer is off for 4 months supporting the flight.

Lucky bar steward!

These fly from just by my house, they sell flights for £2500 plus, there are at least 2 of them, 1 as a back up.

Depends on which one they don't sound like a Spitfire as 1 has the Griffon engine in it.

I can sit in my garden and it flies over about 8 times a day, some locals moan about the noise of it, which baffles me as its a great sight, no matter how many times.

If you're living local to Goodwood then the locals, many the elderly & miserable who moved INTO the area moan about everything that emanates from Goodwood, the race track AND the airfield.

All Boultbees spitfires have Merlin engines. https://www.boultbeeflightacademy.co.uk/

In fact I don’t think there are any griffin powered 2 seaters but happy to be corrected by Eric.

One of the planes that flies out of Solent airport has a Griffon engine as we spoke with the Pilot about it, as it sounds different.

And it’s a twin seater?

Tbh wasn't looking, they had one out that was spitting large flames so took it into the hanger and brought another out, we commented that they sounded different, you are sat literally metres from them, and Pilot said one had a Griffon engine hence the difference.

G-SPIT has been operating from Daedalus which is a single seater Griffon aircraft so likely that. Obviously no pleasure flights with that one.
