I would like recommendations please on somewhere in the Southampton/Salisbury area that would take great care in balancing the wheels on my Cayman. I’d like to think that the operator would listen carefully to the problem I describe and work carefully to resolve it.

I’ve read that the Hunter “Roadforce” Balancing equipment is good so perhaps there is someone in my area who uses that equipment?

Since I had 4 new Michelin PS2 tyres fitted to my Cayman last year there’s been a vibration which begins at about 65 to 70 mph. The wheels were balanced when the tyres were fitted, and I’ve had them balanced again since, but the vibration is still there - there was no vibration at all before the tyres were changed. I do have my suspicions that the problem may be with the rear tyres, perhaps one of them has a manufacturing fault?

Thanks.
DM.

Wheel Alignment Centre, Southampton.

Took my R8 there this week, £50, took 30 mins, highly recommended.

Need to book 24/48 hours in advance.

Thanks PompeyReece, I’ve been there for my wheel alignment and very good he was too, but he only does alignment and I’m looking for someone equally diligent with regard to wheel balancing.

Ok, their website says they are wheel balancing specialists but I might me misinterpreting that:

“Our professional team checks your Castor and camber to make sure they meet specification. Because we trade as wheel alignment and balancing specialists we can provide fast and permanent solutions that are proven to reduce premature tyre wear”

Hmm, that’s interesting. When I took the car for it’s alignment I asked about wheel balancing and was recommended to go to the nearby Tyreland which I did. Unfortunately the vibration is still present.

I had a slight high speed vibration from the rear of my car after having the wheels refurbished last year. The wheels were checked and rebalanced twice by the same place but the problem did not go away.

Eventually I took it to Kwik Fit who said it was caused by the balance weights being to close to each other on opposite sides of the wheels. I presume this was right as they cured the problem by rebalancing.

Yes, slightly confusing and I agree I'm pretty sure he doesn't do wheel balancing. Maybe the website needs some updating?

FWIW, I took my R8 to Pro-Tyre in Portsmouth who did a great job in 30 mins, £40 for all for wheels.

He used to a while back but someone broke in and stole a lot of equipment, including the wheel balancing kit.

I’ve had my wheels balanced now at Christchurch Tyres, part of the Protyre group, where they used their Hunter “Roadforce” balancer. The wheels did not require much adjustment to the existing balance.
