B3089 Hindon to Barford St Martin is quieter than the A30
B390 Shrewton to Heytesbury. Take the road through Longbridge Deverill to Mere then Shaftesbury.

Make a loop by taking the B3081 up Zig Zag, thru Tollard Royal past Cranborne towards Wimborne. Turn north at the Horton Inn, left onto the A354 to Blandford then back to Shaftesbury on the High Road, not the A350.

Zig Zag hill and round the horseshoe towards Shaftesbury is fabulous, but not on a foggy freezing dark December day. There are loads of better roads out that way. Drive out to the Fovant Badges,

that road is brilliant. There are loads of brilliant back roads that aren’t busy most of the time, around that area.

Out towards lulworth is a good drive, usually quiet at the right times too smile

S & W Dorset...

A356 Maiden Newton to Chedington is my no. 1 favourite A road.

Also, if in Weymouth, always leave via the Upwey to Martinstown (B3159).

Static speed cameras there is just two on the A350 between Blandford and Poole. Both in the direction of Blandford.

C13 (also called Top Road between Blandford and Shaftesbury) is good. Can be speed camera vans out sometimes. However I’ve lived in North Dorset and work here and only seen the camera van a handful of times.

Avoid the A350 from Blandford to Shaftesbury. It’s crap. Someone else has said about HGVs. You’ll do it once and realise why!

Zig Zag is alright once you are pass it. It’s a st road on the actual hill. At the top it’s alright. And the views are amazing !

Wimborne to Cranborne is a decent road.

I’m sure I’ll think of some others!

A354 Blandford to Puddletown
B3078 from Cranborne to Wimborne.

Good memories blasting along those most evenings.

It's so congested in Dorset though, especially in summer, you'll soon learn that some roads can only be enjoyed at certain times.
Speed cameras are very common, they also have very well-funded traffic police, follow the local paper as they post a weekly article explaining what towns/localities they will be policing.
