Can anybody recommend a bodyshop that specialises in fiberglass ie Lotus, tvr etc I'm looking for a complete colour change on my car but the body shops I have contacted so far don't appear interested in touching it and prefer to just concentrate on repairs on tin tops
Thanks

Keirik "not used them, but Ive been looking here for my work, they work on tvr so should be good for specials and kit cars"
I had a car repaired by SP Automotive a few years ago, they had it for 3 months before they started work on it, after numerous phone calls and visits I decided to collect the car and go somewhere else, on my arrival they had started to rub it down and after promising me faithfully it would be completed in 2 weeks it took another 2 months, having spoken to a few people at recent shows where they attend I hear the same story so nothings changed, if your not in a hurry to get your car back then give them a try, I wouldn't let them paint a bicycle, shame because they are only up the road.

I took my TVR Griffith to SPS Automotive (now renamed British Sportscar Services) for an engine rebuild. Less than 1,000 miles later it went bang.

It was still under warranty having done less than a year ago.
Dan would not answer my phone calls or return my voicemails......
He was also paid in cash......

I shipped it off to a specialist who found it had a cheap Chinese cam fitted and a loose jubilee clip in the sump.

Any company who doesn't have a landline doesn't want to be contacted.

Just for clarity, the SP Automotive mentioned in this thread is a body shop near Chester and is NOT the same as SPS Aotomotive who did your engine work.

Hi Russ,

Never got a call or reply since our last email (that I am personally aware of)

As for too expensive - considering the amount of work required (inc GRP repairs, screen out and refit, etc) and the degree of detail you required - 4 colours - effectively meaning to do to our standard it would require painting the car in full at least twice, the price we quoted was more than competitive.

I would argue that anything below what we quoted should be considered too cheap to be honest, certainly to a standard where the stripes were painted on and under the clearcoat.

Maybe I misunderstood what level of finish you required.

Anyway, either way I hope you got it sorted and look forward to seeing it at shows in 2018

Kind regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen in reply to yours regarding the colour change on my car I think you are getting confused with another car firstly there is hardly any damage to rectify and it involves three colours not four I'm not sure why you would have to completely re spray the car at least twice possibly more, it will need the 500 bhp to move with the weight of all that paint lol, I have had three other quotes, who have actually seen the car and have all come in a similar price to each other which are all considerably cheaper than yours, with the description of the process and work involved regarding stripes etc and having seen their work I am fully confident in the workmanship they can provide, thanks for your reply on an open forum though, I look foreward to meeting you at one of the many shows I will be attending in 2018 thumbup maybe you quoted me for a different car ?
