Yes sorry. I'd forgotten about that one. I was thinking of OMC Ford near the motorway bridge on Manchester Rd.

Cheers, I couldn't remember if it was or if there had been 3 dealers round there at some stage.

Went past the Land Rover dealer in St Helens last night and that's shut down.

Its been there years - was Hartwell Charles Clark, then Hartwell, then James Edwards. It would appears James Edwards have effectively bought the 'business', and then sold the hard assets - or will do; as the sign in the window says 'We have moved..... blah blah blah.... to James Edwards Land Rover Chester'.

Not a bad way to do business for JE - but unfortunately a tidy looking 'discount carpet warehouse' or similar is probably on the cards for that site.

As a young lad just passed his driving test in the early 80's. I used stand outside the Ferrari dealership on Peter Street in Manchester city Centre - can't remember the name of it, but remember seeing 308's inside the showroom.

My dad also bought his Audi's at Peter Street Motors (Audi Dealer) on Liverpool Street in Salford.

I used to love that old Bauer Millet place.

The last place was good too.

The new place isn't a patch on the old ones!

Really funny reading this thread - remember so many of these dealers from my early driving days. Funny thing it is also bringing back the bizarre experiences I had at many of them.

Like the yellow Metro GTa that me and a mate took from a test drive from that garage in Bardsley, when we had a closer look it appeared to have originally been red at the front and white at the back!!! eek

Once took a SAAB 900 turbo for a test drive with another mate from a dealer near the big crossroads on the A6 in Hazel Grove - I almost put it in a the wall going around a corner on a local back road - when we got back the dealer remembered that he should have told me about the knackered damper! Thought it didn't feel right! biggrin

When I bought my Golf Gti last year I was surprised that most of the old name VW dealers were all owned by the same company.

Ryders Ford - Crosby Liverpool - Only just gone, were Liverpools oldest Ford dealer.
Camerons Rover / MG - Crosby - long since derelict
I remember Tom Englands, it was on the corner by the traffic lights. It was still trading when I moved to Cumbria 13 years ago.

Fairways VW in Preston. Became Lex then I think it's back to Fairways now. Also had a place in St.Annes. As mentioned earlier Bradshaws Ford in Preston and Thomas Motors Ford RS in Blackpool.

Kinders BMW in Ashton. Became Hatfields Jeep when Kinders lost the franchise to Bowker and they moved to that big new gaff.

I still remember the Glanden Motors radio ads from Rock FM - "Glanden Motor, Peugeot/Talbot, Blackpool Road Preston..."

Sharoe Green Garage on Watling Street Road. Still there and run by a family friend. Was a Lada dealer then moved to Proton and now sells Proton and Daihatsu.

Remeber Riding & Kok Suzuki in Preston...? Gaffers SJs and Vitaras all came from there IIRC.
