Metal magic at Barnsley. Google it should give you details. Got a good rep. About 40 quid a wheel iirc.

I suppose £50+ vat isnt that bad, ok it's double (ish) CAS but factor in the time to go to tyre place to remove and refitting, I don't think thats too bad.
It says on their site "From £50+VAT per wheel". Obviously that could be the price for my 16s too, but I'll bet that it's more. biggrin
I think it was only about 20 quid more than that for my 18" TVR Spiders and it saved risking the new finish whilst someone else was re-fitting the tyres.

Tony Bickerstaffe - Wakefield: 01924 259932 (if he's still doing it) - you'll need to take the wheels to him though, no removal and refitting but he will do an excellent job.

Might be a little far but I'd recommend AP Tyres in Rotherham, everybody I know goes here and after seeing some of their work it'd be my first call too, they have a huge variety of finishes and you can view their previous work in the showroom. Not sure of prics but I got quoted around £230 for my 4*17's with powdercoat and sealent smile

Yorvik are silly monies even when you factor in them doing the extra work. Minimum of £50+VAT per wheel according to their site so I gave them a miss.
Yorvik Engineering are probably the very best alloy wheel refurb place in the north of England. In fact, it's not fair to call it a refurb place. They actually re-manufacture the alloys and it takes them a full day to do them.

I had my 19s done there a few months back and the end result was better than showroom quality! Well worth the £75 per wheel I paid.

Quality doesn't come cheap. There are cheaper places about, but if you want them done properly then there is no better place to go.

I've used Ian to repair a cracked alloy on the family hack. Excellent job. He had his prices for wheel refurb on the wall and they seemed reasonable (including tyre off/on and balance).

Hmm, having second thoughts about this powder coating lark now having done some googling and reading this thread and also this one. scratchchin Seems it's not all it's cracked up to be (pun intended tongue out)... Post #22 here also makes for interesting reading. There's plenty of similar horror stories of cracked wheels that have been done by £50+ per wheel places too so it doesn't seem to be a case of 'you get what you pay for'.

I wonder if the wheels could be refurbed and wet sprayed instead? That process seems like it isn't without problems either though as people who have had this done have later discovered that the paint reacts with the acid in the alloy. scratchchin

Hmm, should I risk it or not... scratchchin

Crack out the sandpaper/file and get down to poundland for white or black spray paint (then find some lacquer from your local car parts shop).

I've refurbed these for about £4 per wheel:

And many more.

I already asked him! He ain't interested!

ETA: Just to update the thread, I've not had mine done yet. I've decided I'm not going to get them power coated as there are too many horror stories (complete with pics) of them cracking afterwards because the temp weakens the alloy too much. I also don't like the really stupidly bright silver they are after power coating too. So I'm going to get them dipped and then wet sprayed to return them to the OEM look and finish, although this does cost more.

Jorvik are superb. You want cheap crap that peels after its done, go elsewhere, you want a better finish than Oem and great service, go see Tim and Russ.

Good luck with anyone else.

I love those sorts of comments. I'm sure you could reply 'if you want to be reemed to death pay £75 per wheel'.
I've had 2 sets recently done by CAS and the finish is awesome, both done for less than £200 plus £50 for tyres off/on.
Expensive doesnt always mean good.

I know of loads of people who've had both car and bike wheels powdered without any issues. I think it's easy to get a skewed view from the internet.

Everywhere else I've been have been rubbish. What do you want? My opinions can only be based on my experience, that's how you form opinions. How did you form yours? Oh you said, based on your experience.

They look good except for the fact they have coated the faces where they bolt onto the hub...

I might have a stab at refurbing my spare wheels myself. They are fairly simple 6 spoke ones from an Evo 8 so can't be that hard surely
