What do we make of the south bank development plans??

I'm hoping to buy a house in the later part of the year and starting to wonder if this will make Beeston/Hunslet a sensible place to buy as a good starter home for a single bloke, with opportunity to rent later and long term have good potential as an investment for when HS2 arrives and the south Bank becomes a more attractive area. Maybe the surrounding areas will get a bit of a lift?

Also excited to see this area develop to offer more places to socialise and new businesses to come to the city.

I don't think Beeston will ever be a nice place to live. Holbeck has had a fair bit of money plouged into it and it's slowly improving. What's wrong with where you live now? Aside from the potholes!

They have being kicking those plans around for a while now. They are making the area look nice but it needs some proper investment and to link it up to the city centre a bit better. For example take the Royal Armouries, all the companies that moved in when they first redid that have moved out, the place is like a ghost town if you take Sky offices out of it - and thats only 1mile from the train station. Manchester example would be SpiningFields, stick in WorldPay, RBS and a few others and you get fantastic bars and restaurants and that in-turn extends the city.

As for the HS2 1 mile of viaduct. Great idea and will force the CBD to be extended - but having seen how much pissing around is going on for the Birmingham leg, this isn't going to happen anytime inside 10yrs.

Renting at the moment! I do actually like it round here, so somewhere within 5 mins of the train station and/or bus route would be ideal.

The Mrs rents a flat just up the road from the greenhouse flats in beeston. Having driven and walked and round the area it's all granny flats. Not particularly great, and I can't see the area getting a lift any time soon either.

Maybe Hunslet needs more investigation.

CITU's new development (next to the student village) is a huge step in the right direction: Good mix of quality flats/ houses as well as live-work units and real connectivity to the city. The council need to step up their game if South Bank to be a success: Invest in pedestrian/ cycling infrastructure and schools in the area and it will prosper.

Regeneration only succeeds where there's adjacency to desirable areas and connectivity to the wider area. Leeds has a £158 million CG fund to improve transport and infrastructure: It should spend a chunk of that making the south bank a meaningful example of the "24 hour city" we were promised 20 years ago.

My Son Lived in the Velocity flats just off Sweet street for a year. He enjoyed the location as the access to the City centre was great along with the ability to get on the Motorway and off to work within a few minutes.
