Go from Masham to Hawes, turn right just after the rope factory and enjoy the Buttertubs. Or sample the wild variety of coffee and cakes at the Jervaulx abbey tea rooms!!

How long a drive do you want?
You could head out of Masham on the road to Leighton reservoir and down to Pately Bridge (Nidderdale). Turn right onto the B6265 to Grassington and then Threshfield. Turn right at the junction in Threshfield onto the B6160 and continue to Buckden (Wharfedale). You then have a couple of choices: you can then turn left in Buckden to Hubberholme and over Cam Houses, up and over the dale down to Gayle (that's a great road) and Hawes (stopping off at the Wensleydale Creamery) or you can continue on the B6160 and over Kidstones (Cote-de-Cray in Tour de Yorkshire speak) and down into Bishopdale.

In Hawes, or at the junction at the bottom of Bishopdale, turn right onto the A684 (Wensleydale) and head towards Leyburn and turn right at the petrol station onto the A6108 back down to Masham.

If you want you can extend the drive at Hawes by going over the Buttertubs and down into Swaledale and Reeth, then over Grinton (Cote de Grinton Moor) back to Leyburn. An even further extension would be to turn left at the bottom of the Buttertubs and then right just after Keld and up over to Tan Hill (highest inn in Britain) and then back down Arkengarthdale to Reeth.

A diversion in Hawes would be to take the B6255 over to Ribbleshead Viaduct, if you want to see that. It's a great road.

This is a great summary.

Just to add: for lunch, the Tennant Arms at Kilnsey, Tempest at Elslack or The Bull at Broughton are all on the Skipton side - very good pub food.

I think the Tennant Arms is closed, or something like that. Just Googled it, it closed before Christmas and the new owners are opening in March sometime.

The Saddle Room in Coverham (Middleham) is very good, as is The Garden Rooms at Tennants Auctionners in Leyburn.

What have you been banned from Ray? I've always thought our banter was in good humour in the football forums?

If you're on the road between Hawes and Leyburn, you could try the 'Wensleydale Heifer' in West Witton - very good food (probably expensive), so I've heard.
