The really irritating thing is the cynical choice of location for deployment . I have absolutely no problem in sc vans being sent to busy residential areas with 30limits (where I live we have old folk , kids and pets going across the road to the park and a sizeable minority of idiots doing 50-60 plus in a 30 - police response ? zero)
Typical locations near me are old A 1 (A 6055 up to Bedale and A168 Boroughbridge to Wetherby ), A170 Scawton . A61 near Skipton on Swale . A167 north of Gt Smeaton (especially when Croft has an event . All these have one thing in common - light traffic (especially 6055 and 168 ) , excellent visibility, few , if any junctions, no pedestrians and no houses. I emailed police commissioner about this , and the fact that the choice of location was nothing to do with road safety and everything to with revenue and got the expected drivel in reply . Trouble with many forces is they give the public not what they want, but what the police (or the commissioner) thinks the public should want .....
