Hi all,

My fiance and I are looking at getting married in 2019 and are after a countryside venue. We're looking at halls/ barns with grounds but we like the idea of a field where we can get a marquee and get married there.

Having searching through Google we've found some but hoping people of PH can suggest any places that might not be well known or have had experience of having a venue there in the past.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are looking at the whole of Yorkshire as we have family and friends in both leeds and Sheffield so Yorkshire seemed a fitting place to get married.

We got married there in March this year (in the barn). Fantastic venue and a lovely space to call your own for three days with the accommodation.

My brother got married last year at ecclesall woods in Sheffield which was pretty cool. They had to provide their own bar and caterers (contracted an outside supplier), and marque but it meant they could tailor everything exactly as they wanted. We also left a van there with a coolers full of champagne which saved a fortune.

Have a look through the national trust site, as they do seem to be a bit cheaper for the venue, and you get a wedding planner and a decent amount of staff included in the basic cost.

Me and the other half are getting married at East Riddlesden Hall next year, and have the barn for the wedding/food/evening do, and the manor/lake for a backdrop.

Downside is, more expensive catering, and as we've gone for a Saturday wedding, the site (except the barn) is still open to the public until 4:30 - 5pm

Yeh we've viewed this place and it's currently sat second on our choice of venues. I didn't like the fact it was open to the public so we thought about going for a Friday wedding as it's closed then just means people have to take a day off work. Lovely venue otherwise.

How about Yorkshire Sculpture Park? That was on our list of possibles and is a fantastic venue (don't think they do marquees however) with great food.

It's worthwhile speaking with the wedding team if you've got a couple of trust sites on your list, as they generally have a decent amount of extra's included, I know ours includes security from (I think) closure time onwards, but I think we can request staff to keep the old ladies away from the food and games stuff we're putting on, I believe we also get some service staff, bar staff and a choice of booze for them to stock.

Also, make sure when you're booking the registrar that you ask for a reservation if it's too early to actually book it fully, we're currently stuck with a 3:30 booking for the registrar, or going and doing a town hall thing in the morning and having the ceremony with a celebrant instead.

The Mansion at Roundhay Park or depending on your budget, The Middlethorpe Hotel in york can be hired exclusively,

Good luck smile

That's one of those places places where it's still open to the general public and I found it a bit weird when I went to one there. Wouldn't recommend it myself (despite being a lovely setting).

You could try contacting a tipi or marquee company as they often have contacts who rent out their fields - the tipi company who did our wedding were keen to add my Uncle to their list as we used his field. I know one farmer who rents out a huge field for events, just off J38 of the M1 if that's any use?
