...in a couple of days. Thinking about stuff I'll miss where I currently live and would welcome recommendations for:

Good local tyre place that can fit 20" runflats without damaging the wheel, and ideally don't mind you supplying the tyres

Good local MOT garage that has appointments rather than drop the car off and come back later

Good local VAG specialist that has a courtesy car or pick up/drop off service

Thanks

I am sure you will be spoilt for choice in such a metropolitan place like Filey.

There's a vw dealer in Scarborough, don't expect too much though.

I use ats in driffield for tyres, most other fitters I've used in the area have let me down one way or another over the years.

Got to ask......

Why?

If you can find me a good tyre place - having used a few on my own cars and the work cars I'm struggling - one work car has possibly got ''porous wheels'' due to age and mileage. A number of attempts at resealing. Maybe the answer is to ignore the local tyre spots and just go to a decent garage.

In terms of other work, recently having had months of issues with brakes on a work's A4 (finally solved by a local who works off his driveway on small jobs - shoddy prep when fitting new discs by others and failed rectification by others who might have fitted your specialist needs) - I have just had the A4 in for clutch and DMF at Redgate in Flixton. As recommended by my man working off his drive - sends people there when its too big for him.
First time used, but very impressed. As others have said in online reviews - shows you the parts afterwards and what was wrong. Costs seem good. No frills site - they even seem to have a portaloo as the only facility ! Tidy workshop and small reception. But very professional and will certainly be used again.

Thank you ClassicMercs

That looks like a top place - servicing, MOTS, collection service and if he doesn't do 20" runflats I imagine he'd know somewhere that does.

If not I'll start with ATS in Drifield, thanks Wildoliver

Why Filey? I thought if would be fun to see what it was like living in the 1950s

So while we're at it....

I'd welcome any recommendations for:

Good local Structural Engineer who understands and is sympathetic to old (Victorian) buildings

Good local Architect/Technician to draw plans for Planning Permission

Good local Builder who understands and is sympathetic to old (Victorian) buildings

Good local Plumber

Good local Plasterer

Good local electrician who understands home automation: z wave, cat 5/6, CCTV etc

"Local" here is probably 40-50 miles

Thanks again

York is probably your best bet for the niche skills. Maybe as far as Leeds if you have a bigger job and can factor in their B&B costs to avoid commute.

If you need a tiler there is a top bloke in Hornsea - Chadwick tiling. Did some perfect work for us. Have fun on the coast - we`ve just been swimming in the sea agin!

For a great reliable joiner/builder give C Hartley joinery and building a shout - I'll send you his number he's in Scarborough and I can't recommend him enough! He'd recommend all the other folks you're after too!
