Worth having a nose at Addingham too if you are happy to drive to a station (Ilkley).
I spent Sunday in Ilkley too, great place (although Piccolinos is cliquey as fook).
Try the Vietnamese on Station Road. Sadly not open on Sundays though. Or the Moody Cow. Or the Wheatley in Ben Rhydding.I spent Sunday in Ilkley too, great place (although Piccolinos is cliquey as fook).

Not tried the Moody Cow but know the Vietnamese as it was a friend of my ex (Ilkley lass) who runs it and went to their opening.Similarly the Wheatley was a regular haunt for us as she only lived down the road and it was a firm favourite with the single Dads when they had the kids and would all pile in there most of Sunday

Used to be my local as well.. Similarly the Wheatley was a regular haunt for us as she only lived down the road and it was a firm favourite with the single Dads when they had the kids and would all pile in there most of Sunday
As for the Vietnamese, was that Laura who managed with Loc?
If you aren't reliant on the train for work and kids aren't an issue then Addingham is to my mind the best shout of the Wharfedale villages. Values are held back compared to Ilkley and Burley by virtue of it not having a station and by potential lack of access to Ilkley Grammar School if it is oversubscribed. If it wasn't for these two points being important we would have looked but chose in Burley in Wharfedale.
It has some nice pubs, a few shops and is 5 minute drive (or healthy walk) into Ilkley.
From your criteria, I think the biggest concession may be on the land - unfortunately there isn't much around that has land with it. Due to geographical constraints of being in a narrow valley most of the houses have relatively little in the way of garden, so it may be worth looking a bit further east to say between Harewood and Wetherby?
One PITA we do have in Wharfedale is motorway access, if you need to get to the motorway network it is a minimum of 30 minutes extra.
Skipton is ok but it can be a little backward and it can get a little 'tasty' on an evening when its 'farmers v townies'.
Have you also considered a little further north into Nidderdale?

If you do go remote remember that up t'Dales in winter can be harsh.
I come from upper Wensleydale but when we we able to move back up here I chose to be closer to the A1 and lower down the Dales than where I grew up.
Looks stunning in summer but can be pretty bleak on a wet and windy November day, and then when the snow comes......

Cheers! I am aware of the potential harsh winters I come from upper Wensleydale but when we we able to move back up here I chose to be closer to the A1 and lower down the Dales than where I grew up.

Thanks for posting this up OP as we're looking to a similar move early next year.
We spent some time driving around most of the areas mentioned in this thread and were really taken with Wetherby and the surrounding villages.
However, some places have cropped up here that we need to spend more time in so thanks to all that have contributed as you've helped us too!

If your family are Castleford way then living somewhere like addingham is a right ball ache to get to, there's no easy route really.
My dad lives in addingham and we're in LS26 and it's not a journey I enjoy, at all.
Wetherby and surrounding is much easier as you're straight on the A1/M1.
It's a difficult choice really. With your budget you actually have too much choice, which makes it harder.
