911 went a few years back, had a bit of a hiatus from quick stuff with a succession of mx5s which provide a bit of an income, still have a 944 and Boxster but we picked a c6 corvette up last year. Good to have some poke back!

After 6 months driving a Renault Zoe I should be back in a performance car by this time next Saturday. Always up for a drive, last PH one I went on was a few years ago now.

Fancy doing something car related this Bank Holiday weekend as weather still looking good. Was thinking about going down to the Sheffield Cars & Coffee meet on Sunday morning, but wondered if anyone going out for a drive?

Whereabouts are you located? Would be good to get a drive out in a pair of C6's biggrin

I'm over in Harrogate, currently waiting for my new water pump then the car is all good for a drive out, hoping it will arrive next week, just took the car out locally this evening and I think it's on it's last legs so it's laid up for a week or two now frown

I'm up for a drive out, especially if there's C6s. Seriously considering one for my next car.

You certainly wouldn't regret it! Whereabouts are you?

Wakefield.

Leaning towards an LS3 auto, only real concern is LHD overtakes.

Overtakes aren't an issue. What makes you want an auto?

Speed more than anything.

Yeh, manuals are fun and more involving, but autos are faster and with paddles you keep 90% of the control.

I try to be mechanically sympathetic, which means shifts are slower than I'd like - I have to force myself to shift slower and it's frustrating. Also, being tall, I can't angle my leg to heel toe - I can rev match downshifts, just not while braking - but the LS3 auto blips itself.

Heard a few bad things about Corvette manual gearboxes not being great as well, although they improved through the years?

That being said, I intend to try manual and auto before I make a decision. There's always the worry that being an auto will be boring as there's less to do, in which case a C5 Z06 would probably be top of the list.

Do I have to hand over my PH card now?

We looked at C5 zs before going for the c6. Being a z51 it's at least as focussed as a c5z but probably a touch quicker. The manual in the c6 is lovely. It's on a par with a Porsche box.

If I was buying a c6 again I would look for a gransport, all the z51 bits but widebody, dry sump and ls3. But ls2s are plenty of car.

C5Z is 100kg lighter than the C6 non-Z, so I'd hope it handles a little better.

In reality that's probably optimistic, although it has some trick bits like titanium exhaust it's still the steel chassis which carried across with minor mods to the c6 and more or less the same drive train albeit the c6 getting the new generations of engines. Not pulling c5s down at all I quite fancy one as they are a good looking car and a bit of a bargain at the moment, plus some of the features of the c6 annoy me, but side by side it's generally accepted the newer the car the quicker it is and the better it is, c6 base was considered pretty equivalent to the C5 z06 and the c7 stingray is considered pretty equivalent to the c6 z06. Interior quality took a big jump on the c4-c5 then another big one to c6 and the c7 interior is lovely.

They aren't as big as you initially think either, ours fits in any standard sized garage, boot space is incredible and they are seriously quick. Handling is excellent. Like a big mx5. Overtaking isn't an issue in lhds, I've had then since my early 20s you just stop noticing it after a while and pull to the left to look round things. Dollop 400+ hp in to the deal and overtakes aren't an issue.

Anyway back on track.

I could at a push do this Sunday next Sunday's out for me but the Sunday after would be ideal.
