We're looking at a nice house in Carr Lane, about a hundred yards or so from the Acomb Road junction. Nice area?

I know there will be a lot of traffic ther but being a Londoner, I'm used to that. Is it a spot where yoof congregates and drives scooters, or pukes on your front garden after a few beers and a curry, or a hotbed of radicalism of any sort is what I want to know?

Ta.
It’s a busy road but you have seen that, Ainsty is a busy pub as well. It’s not the best round the back off Carr lane but certainly not the worst. Can’t answer about youths but I highly doubt there are any hot beds of radicalism. Personally I wouldn’t live that side of York but that’s personal preference.
Funny how things change! My partner has bought a house that side of York, so spend a lot of time that side now!

Haxby Is great, we've been here for nearly 10 years and have just extended so guess we'll be here for a while longer..

Massive fan of the place, the town centre has pretty much everything you need (within reason), Pubs are OK, shops are good, coffee shops are ace and the Chinese in the village is amazing!
Scrotes are minimal, OAPs are plentiful.
Loads of green space and North of Haxby is towards the Howardian Hills etc..

It was the chinese that drew me to the place in the first instance, a query to a local friend suggested Paddyfields, so I trekked out of town and drove through this little town that seemed ace. found the place online on Friday, viewing Saturday, offer Tuesday AM and accepted that afternoon!

Teebs, is that Red Hot Chinese? I had a delivery a while back and was a little disappointed, should I give them another go?

We’ve had some really good meals at Paddyfields over the years, it’s a bit far from Copmanthorpe for a takeaway unfortunately.
Going back to 1987, we were moving from Bridlington for work reasons and found a nice house in Haxby we nearly bought. Knowing I was going to be commuting to Leeds regularly, as well as site work all over the UK, we chose Copmanthorpe for easier access onto the A64 & motorway network. I don’t regret it, we’re still here and must have saved many hours with not doing the extra distance to Haxby.
Haxby is certainly a good place, we have friends who live there and love it, similar for my self employed mechanic who’s lived in nearby Wigginton for 35 years.

Paddyfields it's called. They don't deliver but it's worth the trip. Also have a restaurant for normal times..

My girlfriend and I moved to Fulford in York in November from a nice part of Camberwell, SE5. Work in the city was no longer needed so a reduction in rent was well appreciated. After 6 months here now, we have dedided to put down some roots and had an offer accepted on this property in Haxby.

Any immediate concerns from this wonderful gang of Northerner's?

I know exactly where that house is. You will see a lot of Openreach engineers parking outside your house as there is a cabinet against the boundary wall, although that's not a problem as such, just something you'll get used to. It's also very handy for the shopping arcade/supermarket/bakery's, pubs and takeaways( 2 Chinese, 2 Indian, 2 pizza and a Fish&Chip shop) which are all a 2 or 3 minutes walk. 'Yoof' sometimes congregate at the front of the takeaways near the Co-op, but your house is to the rear, so it won't affect you. Congratulations, I'm sure you'll enjoy living there - look out for blue american cars with white stripes, it'll probably be me - I live in a neighbouring village

The house is built in the old corner plot garden of number 1, I gather from my local coffee shop owner that he still lives there and is maybe the owner of the soliciters in the arcade? He was their soliciter before retirement. Small world indeed.

The sellers have found a vacant property so hopefully it will be a fairly quick process. When youy see a Golf GTI and poverty spec Fiat 500 in the drive feel free to knock on the door for a beer and we can discuss my turbo replacement for your displacement.

Not sure, think we're getting confused. Nevermind. Give me a shout on here if you need any futher local info, I know some trades etc (and more importantly, which ones to avoid..).
As said before Haxby is great, so quiet on an evening.

The Tiger is a Sam Smiths pub, which has good and bad points.... If you like lager though, the Purebrew is great stuff.

I’ve only drunk in the Lion once, and it wasn’t my cup of tea.

I can recommend Tipsy Fox off-licence though which has a great selection of beer (I’ll travel there from the centre of York to stock up).

Hope the move goes smoothly and welcome!

One of my best friends lives in central Haxby and keeps banging on about the Tipsy Fox - will have to have a trip over.
