York Raceway/Dragway

As some of you may know, York raceway looks/looked like it might be gone forever (for whatever reasons), but Straightliners have just announced an event to be held there on 30th of June.

It will be a single lane 1/8th Mile, and running in the opposite direction to that which York normally operated. This will I expect, be due to the Mintex "test track" that was (for some inexplicable reason) laid right down the middle of the existing two lanes.

A single lane, 1 vehicle at a time run might not be everyone's idea of what a drag strip is about, but if it is a chance to get something started in order to save the venue, then I think it's got to be better than doing nothing.

I have no affiliation to the place, the venue, or to Straighliners; I am just a fan who has been going to York Raceway since the 80s. It needs support - please head along on 30th June - I'm sure the organisers will appreciate all the support they can get

Agreed -the Raceway was a great venue and I have enjoyed doing RWYB there , as well as watching properly quick stuff. Sadly , the lack of response to your post confirms that the majority of car folk these days seem to prefer standing in fields and comparing speaker wattage...
